Interested in the Toyota Prepaid Maintenance Plans?

    $670 for the 4 year/ 55,000 mile Premium Plan. MSRP $995.

    Hi Danny,

I'll be picking up my new Prius in a few weeks. I normally buy the prepaid maintenance coupons at time of purchase. If they pressure me to buy then and there can I buy from here later without worries? Is the price still $670?

    thanks,

Yes, the price is still $670 for that plan and you're eligible for the Premium Auto Care as long as you're still within 1000 miles of the first scheduled service.

    Hello.

I emailed you about a situation involving a service agreement I purchased from my dealer that turned out only to cover me for 75,000 miles instead of the 100,000 miles that I had wanted.

Is there anything I can do? I bought the agreement along with the Prius on May 12, 2006 for $1161.00.
Would it be possible to "swap" it? Or refund it and purchase it from you?

I feel like such a fool for falling for my dealer's scheme.

I just purchased the extended warranty from Troy and I can't believe how easy it was. After I reached 35,000 miles I began to think that I should get the extended warranty. I contacted Troy through the link here and got an e-mail from him within a day or two with the instructions. I mailed him the required info just before the Memorial Day weekend and had the paperwork here when I returned home on Wednesday. Great service and painless. Now, I hope that I don't have to use it but I have the peace of mind knowing that I have it.

I echo Kathy's sentiments as I too just purchased the extended warranty through the offer on PriusChat.com. Please, don't wait until it's too late!

Another satisfied customer! I just got my warranty from Troy with 185 miles before the original warranty ran out. Even though it needed to be done in a hurry, he gave me great service--TROY ROCKS!!!!!!

I bought the extended warranty from my dealer when I bought the car (May 10). They charged me $995, which they said was a $100 discount off what they normally charged, because I came in through their affiliation with Costco, so dealth with the Internet/Fleet Manager. Now, my question is, should I be getting some kind of card to keep with the car that has emergency phone numbers on it? I mean, I can see I would just call a dealership if I go out one morning and find something gone kerblooie, and they'd arrange whatever towing/etc. But what if I am in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night--do I have to use my AAA to get a tow and stuff and then deal with Toyota? This does worry me, since AAA keeps threatening to cancel us (even though my husband has been a member since 1980--it says so right on our cars) because we keep actually CALLING them for tows and jumps and stuff for one or another of our 5 cars (and 3 household memberships and 4 cars insured with them and the house, too...) :( So, I DID get this one letter from them that has a card or something that gives a number to call with QUESTIONS, but I keep forgetting to have it handy when I think of THIS question. (I also emailed my sales guy a few days ago but haven't heard back....hmmm...) Help me please

    Edit: oops--it was $945, not $995...

I've been reading the Priuschat.com board for several months while deciding on a Prius. I took delivery last week and couldn't be more pleased with the car or the information on this board. I was expecting to be quoted MSRP, and was shocked when the finance person quoted me $2275 for the Platinum Extra Care Agreement and $970 for the Premium Auto Care pre-paid maintenance. She then told me that I didn't really need the Platinum because everything was covered for 6 years so I really "Only" needed the Power Train Warranty for $1200 and the Premium Extra Care for $970. When I told her we'd think about it, she asked why I needed to think about it and said that the price was going up soon. I replied that we needed to think about it because we needed to think about it. I contacted Troy by email, he got back to me right away, I mailed him the documents he needed on Friday; on Tuesday he called me to get my CC number. It was very easy and saved me $1645 over the dealer's quoted price! Thanks, Troy for the easy and quick transaction and the great price, too. This is an incredibly helpful board.

I can't thank Priuschat enough for offering this deal. Our local dealership offered us a 6 year, 90,000, $100 deductible platinum plan for $2200. I have my new service plan from Priuschat in hand and am feeling very grateful for the significant savings and more inclusive plan offered through this site.

    Gratefully yours,
    Matt W

I did some checking on this "Maintenace Contract" thing. I got a 4 yr. plan for $995. It says that you will need the first service at 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. I figure that I will probably go in every 6 months for scheduled service, because I won't drive the 5,000 miles by then. This means that I should get 8 services in the next 4 years.

I called my local dealer & he said that the 'minor' 5,000 miles services will cost about $30 each. And he said that the 'major' services (at 15,000, 30,000, etc) will cost about $300 each. If I paid for these out of my pocket, this would add up to a total of $960.

This means that this "Maintenace Contract" will cost me an extra $65. Not too good of a deal, on the surface. HOWEVER, I am protected against future price increases! (A very real possibility.)

Did I do my math correctly?

    Hi Frank,

I have a couple of comments...first the coupons/vouchers don't have an expiration date, so you can continue to use them until their gone. On the 4/55K plan you get 11 of them, so if you're following the 6 month schedule rather than mileage you can use them right on up until your 66 month service. The only thing that runs out at the 4 year mark is the roadside assistance.

The other thing is $30 is very inexpensive for a true 5K service...assuming the dealer is doing everything they should be. Normally an oil change alone runs $20 to $25.00 Here's what they should be doing...

    5000 mile service:

    - Oil and filter changes
    - Lubrication of key chassis parts (including door, trunk and hood hinges)
    - Tire Rotation
    - 19-Point Inspection, which includes the following:

    Fluids Inspected and Replenished
    - Brake master cylinder
    - Coolant
    - Clutch master cylinder (manual transmission)
    - Differential
    - Power steering (if equipped)
    - Transfer case (4WD models)
    - Transmission
    - Windshield washer

    Visual Inspection Items
    - Air filter
    - Axle boots (damage/leaks)
    - Cooling system (leaks)
    - Drive belts (cracking/damage/wear)
    - Exhaust system/muffler
    - Hoses (cracking/leaks)
    - PCV valve (if applicable)
    - Shock absorbers/suspension
    - Tire pressure (check and adjust)
    - Tire wear
    - Windshield wipers

That should take them at least an extra 20 minutes...for only $5-10 more than an oil change?! I think most dealers charge $50-$60 for this, and I've heard of some as high as $80.00

Plus, we are offering that plan for a lot less than the suggested retail price of $995.00 through PriusChat!

After a year and 13,000 miles of satisfied and trouble-free Prius ownership I thought it prudent to purchase the 7 year/100,000 mile extended warranty as "advertised" here at PC.

I called Troy and got the ball rolling, it was fast and easy. Troy was very courteous and knowledgeable, and it was kind of "fun" to actually speak with someone I'd only read about online.

    Thanks again Troy! :)

Are the any potential issues using the pre-paid maintenance coupons at local dealerships if we purchase via Troy in Greenfield? I'm in California and just want to make sure that the dealerships in my area will accept the coupons.

    Thanks!

I also am in California - I purchased the pre-paid maintenance package from Tony and everything arrived as promised. The coupon book is identical to the one I had on my previous (2004) Prius and I generally didn't use the selling dealership for service from that one (through 30,000 miles), so expect no troubles with the new one for my 2006.

Thanks Tony for a very pleasant/efficient purchase experience!

Hello. I just joined the group today. Picking up my new Prius tomorrow, silver pine mica with option 3. Is the Toyota extended warranty offered on this page the EXACT same 7yr / 100K mile warranty sold by the dealer? Are there any extended warrantees out their that also cover the hybrid battery or other hybrid components? Thanks!

Your list is VERY interesting, Troy. As shown on my local dealership's service list [attachmentid=4158] the visual inspection items don't come in until the 10k service. I have tried to send you several messages to get more precise details about exactly what the service plan consists of, but haven't heard back. I would very much like to know the scoop! Since I still have only about 1700 miles on the car, I don't guess I am in that much of a hurry. BUT, looking at your list and Freeman's list--I really do think I need details, so I can figure out if the service plan would be a good idea.

I emailed Troy late this week and tried calling his direct phone on Friday - his message says he's on vacation returning Monday. I expect he'll get back to us then, since so many people who have dealt with him report he's quick to reply.

    Hi all,

I am back, and I'm working my way through all my messages and emails, although it might take me a couple of days to get caught up.

Rufaro, I copied that list directly from the Toyota Financial website here - Premium Maintenance plan info Click on the 19 point inspection link for the additional items.
Generally, I would take any dealer generated maintenance schedule with a grain of salt as they may or may not coincide with the factory recomendations. You should go by the Scheduled Maintenance Guide that came with your car if there is any doubt about what should be done.
