My dealer - Bill Dube in Dover NH wanted $3200 for the 7yr/100K service contract. I turned it down - Whew!

I bought my 2005 Prius w/ Package 6 on March 14 and got the Platinum Plan - 6 years, 75,000 miles for $1895. So from what I've gathered from reading this thread, I can have it cancelled, get my money back and buy a new Platinum Plan - 7 year, 100,000 miles for $985 from Troy. Am I right? And the cancellation process is a breeze? What about the "carefree car protection" or prepaid service plan? That plan was sold to me for $475 - 3/35,000 plus N5+? I don't even know what that really means. All I know is that I was told that after I purchased the plan, I would get coupons and that's all I'd need to bring when I got my car service. But I'd have to go to the service department at the dealership that sold me the plan? Is that right? Sorry if I'm asking questions that have been asked before but it's all a little confusing.

Being pissed at the dealer who sold me the expensive contract, I simply called Toyota financial got a fax number and sent them a signed fax canceling my contract. Took about a week to get confirmation back from them, and the fact that they had credited my contract by the extended warentee amount. Then after talking to Troy, sent him some snail mail with signed milage statement. Once he receive it, I put the new extended warentee on Visa. Piece of cake, not grief, no problem. Save yourself a few car payments and go for it !

[/font:1db47272b6]"Thanks, GeeWhiz. Can you recall if your contract with Troy is transferable to one other owner, as the original is? This technology is so exotic that I expect to want to replace my 2004 with a later model before too many of the ECU's and sensors give out, unless they are truly as reliable as my son insists. Any purchaser of a previously owned Prius is likely to need the insurance, as I would."

Troy sells the real McCoy from Toyota Financial Services. It is the exact same plan sold by most other dealers (some sell non Toyota plans) and the terms are identical.

Hello-I just wanted to make sure that you can buy this extended warranty anytime before you reach 3 years or 36,000 miles. My dealer seemed to think you had to buy the ext. warranty when the car was brand new, but I didn't think that was the case.

Hi folks.

Well I ordered my Silver '05 w/ AI package a couple of weeks ago and hope to have it in a month or so. After reading this ponderous <g> thread, I have shipped a few bucks over to Danny and will be calling Troy as soon as I receive my car.

Keep up the good work, guys!

IMHO, the extended warranty is a must have. If you keep the car for a long period of time it will give you peace of mind and most likely pay for itself after just a few out of warranty repairs. If you sell the car, at best it will add to the resale value and at least, it will make the car more attractive to a buyer.

At, $985, it's a great deal.

Are you kidding me? Is this still available? My dealer wanted over $2,200 for this plan. I said no because I was going to buy independently when I bought my gap insurance through my loan with my Credit Union. Then they said they didn't have it for the Prius. I figured I'd just skip it because I wasn't going to pay $2,200. But for this price.....it's worth the "insurance" and piece of mind. Especially since I plan on keeping the car beyond 10 years. I've had my last three cars for about 10 years each. But I think my Prius will go longer than any of them.

If I can figure out how to buy it I will. I never did figure out how to buy the shields through the shop. Maybe Mozilla isn't compatible?

I have a question concerning the Toyota Prepaid Maintenance Plan and the 2005 Prius. With the Prius, the new owner gets 5 free oil changes and complimentary Roadside Assistance for 3 years, is the Maintenance Plan worth it? How?

Perhaps from the selling dealer, but not from Toyota Motor Corporation, USA.

I'm currently shopping around for auto insurances and called Geico. They had mentioned an umbrella policy that would cover parts (A/C, radiator, etc.) that they said extended warrantees do not cover.

This being said, I was wondering if someone would be so kind to explain to me what all would be covered with this extended warrantee?

The Platinum coverage, as sold on this site, covers virtually all the components of the vehicle.

The only exclusions are normal wear items such as upholstery, brake pads and linings, wiper blades, tires, etc.

If you are interested in what Geico has to offer, get a sample policy from them and read through it very carefully. Personally, I think they are blowing smoke at you but I've been wrong before.

The deal offered on Priuschat, IMHO, is the best available bar none.

The only extended protection coverage which Toyota offers for the Prius is the Platinum protection. It covers virtually all components on new vehicles. If the vehicle's component does not appear on the List of Excluded Components, it is covered by Platinum protection.

Thanks for this list. That helps. I think Geico may be right in some respects, but in the case of the Prius, the coverage would be redundant.

However, a few of these give me pause, especially as the parts are mentioned by Geico as not being covered by most extended warrantees:

List of Excluded Components
Heating Hoses, Lines and Tubes
Hinges
Interior and Exterior Trim Moldings, including but not limited to, Cup Holders, Ashtrays, Covers, and Vents
Hoses
Nuts, Bolts, Clips, Retainers and Fasteners
Vacuum Hoses, Lines and Tubes
Why aren't these covered? Especially those related to heat or vacuum? Are these easily or afforadably replaced? It does make me wonder what is covered, as the excluded list seems longer than the actual items that constitute "everything else."

shins,

I just noticed that you live in the Southeast region. I am not sure that Toyota Motor Corporation, USA, extended coverage plans are available in your area since it is not the distributor in that part of the country.

Email Troy to get the definitive answer.

They are available to purchase FROM Troy, you just can't purchase it directly from a SE dealer.

The list of things that aren't covered is pretty normal and it would be tough to find any extended warrany that would cover them.

I'd like to thank the Academy.....

Actually, I'd like to give a huge thanks to both Troy and Priuschat for this offer.

My dealer tried to get me to by extended warranty for $2,200.

I just mailed a check to Troy today for $690. I bought the 7 year, 75,000 mile extended warranty which is MORE than enough to cover my driving needs. I am so happy to feel safe about my new Prius and do so at a fair price. I usually keep my cars an average of 10 years so having this warranty is wonderful. I suppose if Toyota does something wonderful to the 2012 Prius I might be tempted to replace my 2005 early. But at least now I won't feel I have to.

A big thanks to PriusChat and TROY!
