Good idea. And when you need a tune up you good just do it online via iTunes.

It is on the driver's side of a Japanese RHD Prius Plug-in. Unfortunately, the US is neither the center of the world nor the home country of the Prius, so we don't get to have it on the left side.

My guess is it allows future Prius Plug-in trims that do not have a navigation display, but still have a charge timer.

They are mediocre to your personal preference but not everyone.
It neither should or shouldn't be on the steering wheel. It's your personal preference. I don't care either way. I use voice command works fine.

That, I agree with you and is a legitimate gripe.

I've managed to use EV mode on freeway overpasses and small hills just fine in ECO mode without the ICE. I'm crawling at 40 mph but still faster than your 15.
Another it neither should or shouldn't be. My outlet is in the center of the garage. My wife prefers parking on the left side of the garage so I have to park on the right. Even before the PiP, I always back into the garage for quick getaways in the morning. So guess what? The charging point where it is the ideal position for me. You can argue it should be on the front of the vehicle for public charging but it neither should or shouldn't be on the driver's side.
A third it neither should or shouldn't be. It works where it is. Is it better on the NAV screen? That's a personal preference. I'd argue it isn't because the NAV takes too long to load up. I can easily set my timer with the "cheesy" buttons.

I always use the end timer.Just because you have no use for it doesn't mean everyone doesn't. Yes, they should have an option to enable the timer to always be in use. And guess what? I would turn it off because I prefer it always off. Why? Simple, if it is always off and I forget to set the timer, I get a full charge 3 hours after I plug it in or whenever I need if. If the timer is always on and I forget to turn it off and I need the car in three hours, I am out of luck. I definitely prefer it the way it is set now.
Me too. Unfortunately, it's an aerodynamics issue. I'll take the better fuel economy.

Don't disagree with you there. That thing is freakishly annoying. I've had people not mind it but so far no one who prefers it.

    Ditto as above.

I think you just complimented it and I agree with that sentiment. Windows XP is still being used over a decade after it's release. Last time I checked, (might have changed to windows 7) it is the number 1 OS in use on personal computers. You call it clunky. I call it reliable. I'll take reliable over Ford's fancy Sync any day.

Overall, I agree with you 3 out of your 8 complaints. 1 is a law of physics that no one has been able to come up with an answer for so I won't blame Toyota for it.

I feel your pain. A number of your complaints do not exist in the Advanced model. I have the advanced package and I'm surprised they are mot standard. They should be. HDD Navigation is snappy and sharp. No tethering required for BT, 8-way electric seat, and other stuff. I thing these things should be included in the base and leave the led lights, Radar Cruse Control, Leather-like seats for the Advances a $3K difference (not $7K). I bet they narrow the price and equipment gap in the '15 model iteration. Too many gripes from Base owners--loyal fans souring badly.

Perhaps you're joking, but the business model would actually make it free and you pay for the apps. In this scenario there would need to be a Toyota app store where Toyota would get a cut of the profits. I wish they had Apps that could change the default behavior like the Radio presets and such. So much opportunity if they opened it up to a broader community.

no no no. You already bought the car and apps wouldn't need a data plan. The innovation is that you can replace the default apps written by 3rd party developers.

without the data plan how would you replace the default apps and get the bugs out of the replacement apps?

if your thinking updates from a disc or something, that was pretty expensive for the nav system updates.

I expect Tesla to lead the way in elegant in car UI.

actually, i'm pretty sure it's just because they just tacked it on to the standard prius with minimal modifications. same with the seat warmers. fwiw, the RAV4 EV does have the timer on the MFD.

Entune does work with my iPhone, but only when I tether it.

It reads my phone book without being tethered however.

And you know what? Everyone would want it!

As someone who studies and implements user interfaces in the software that I design, I follow Apple's lead whenever I can. It's no accident that once Apple designed a truly great tablet, the entire world scrambled to either buy one or design one just like it.

    Same with the iPhone...

Now I'm waiting for the iPrius!

Can you give me some tips on how you get that kind of mileage. Mine is worse than my 06 prius?.

Yours has 918 miles with 16 gallons consumed right? That's 57.4 MPG in the winter.

As I said in your thread, you need to figure out why 4.2 EV miles remains at the end of the 18 miles round trip.

It's another one of those "missing information" situations, where something vital isn't thought to be asked or mentioned. So many variables!

At least we have enough real-world data collected from others to have a general idea of the circumstances owners will encounter and how the system will respond. Unfortunately, it's still a challenge to convey that understanding to newbies.
