Show them 6-2 Customization, page 646 of the manual for changing the beeps repeatedly to beeps once.

 

Anyone know where I can get this done in the San Francisco peninsula area for free? Magnussen's in Palo Alto wanted something like $50 to do it. I saw someone mention Milpitas, but that's a bit of a hike for me.

 

I suspect that my Milpitas dealer only did it free because I bought the car through them. They probably would would not extend that courtesy to a random PiP owner. The service rep had to do a bit of digging when I suggested that other dealers were doing it at no charge for their own customers.

 

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I bought the car from Dianne in Carson - though it's a very nice dealership and I enjoyed buying the car from her, I don't feel like driving 800 miles round-trip to get a free reverse-beep-disable. ;-)

 

Can the owner not disable this in the GIII like in the GII?

I believe that you need something like the Scan Gauge tool. No secret incantations.

I'd put the money towards a Scanguage and do it yourself. I did mine in a few minutes not knowing what I was doing. It was very easy.

 

It should also be possible with an Android device + the Torque application. I used the combo to turn off my seat belt reminder today.

Aside from the Android device, you'll need to spend $5 for the Torque application (actually, the free version may work now that I think about it) and another $20 for a bluetooth ODB2 adapter.

 

An ELM327 for about $20 is the cheapest DIY. If you can't haggle a free change from a dealer, there's always Luscious Garage | Hybrid Specialists | Modifications . Luscious Garage is a resource that you should know about for all things Prius.

Yes, that is the same one I bought.

DrInnovation told me to get that one. He said v1.5 was more stable than v1.4. I didnt try a v1.4. I bought this one and it has worked well for me. DrI said this cheap adapter might be limited to just 10-15 PIDs on Torque. USBSeawolf2000 has the Kiwi adapter and he said he can monitor 60 PIDs at a time. But the Kiwi costs $80-100 if I recall?

There's a subforum here for the Torque Android app. I've posted some data there and you can see how USB and Vincent helped me/us map out all the PHV PIDs to use in Torque.

USB hasnt updated the original post. But Vincent uploads his PID spreadsheet to Google Docs. Eaech time he revises it, he uploads a new one and disables the old one. So the spreadsheet link on the first page doesnt work (it says you need permission). Here is the latest spreadsheet, on post #42:

You need to buy this only if you do not currently have a terminal that connects to Bluetooth.

After the ELM327 is connected (paired) to my notebook, I opened COM4 (your PC might vary) from PuTTy and entered in the commands posted by GaryP previously

Commands:
AT SH 7c0 (hit 'Send')
Returns: OK

21ac (hit 'Send')
Returns: 61 AC 00 (meaning continuous beep)

3bac40 (hit 'Send')
Returns: 7F 3B 78
Returns: 7BAC (meaning done)

21ac (hit 'Send')
Returns: 61 AC 40 (meaning now single beep)

I put the car in reverse and viola, only one beep.

Note: Your car must be in READY mode.

 

The dealer from which I got the PIP did it for free a week after delivery. He did warn me that he would perform whatever dealer customization changes only once for free.

I had him change the reverse beep and the seatbelt alarm.

For any additional future changes, including changing something back, he will charge me $45.
