Dimmable Dome light in Prius with 1 Watt Xenon White high powered LED

    Nice! Where do you find 12V power for the front yellow LEDs?

    I wired the front LEDs into the front side marker lights, right at the wiring harness near the connector at the top rear of the headlight assemblies.

    A possible 12V choice, but it also means you'll have to keep the marker lights on (including dimmer dash lights) to use your yellow 'DRL' strips?

    Yes, I normally leave either the parking lights or the headlights on while driving in any light. I have replaced the front marker and tail lights with LED bulbs so the power draw is minimal. I feel that tail lights being on with DRLs is safer since some people still don't turn on their lights in fog or heavy rain during daylight hours, making them difficult to see from behind.

    The dash lights can be turned up to full brightness anytime by turning the dimmer switch all the way up past the 'click'.

    Three way comparison with Black & Decker VPX system flashlight, DealExtreme 1.5 Watt LED and the Ebay 1 Watt Xenon white bulb.

    The 1 Watt Xenon seems so dim now.

    I appreciate your video's, but I think the camera distorts the actual color of the bulbs. I think pictures would give more of an accurate judgment of what the true color is. I will wait for my friend's set to come in before deciding on buying them.

    RE: LED Running lights.

    Has anyone tried putting white LEDs inside the headlight assembly, in the section between headlight and turn signal?

    There are about ten holes in the clear divider piece that might hold LEDs.

    No idea if it's possible to get anything bright enough to function as a DRL.

    Received the following LED's yesterday:
    1x Red H.P. Wedge Bulb LED
    2x Red Wide angle LED
    2x White H.P. Flank LED

    Just installed the two flank LED's and they work like a charm! They were actually easier to install than expected.

    Does anyone have advice as for how to install the LED's above the NAV-system (between front seats)? I first need to figure out how to get the normal lights out. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    At this moment i've succeeded in installing the two red wide angle LED's also. BUT ;)...
    when trying to turn out the middle light (i should have pulled it out..), it popped upwards including it's ''holder'' and now lies somewhere on top of the thin 'plate' where the holder are fit into.

    Does anyone know if I can get to the top of this plate somehow? I've tried unscrewing the two screws that I saw, but that didn't seem to work.

    Any help is appreciated.. thanks in advance :)

    I thought of doing that but I think I'll have to bake the headlamp housing to get inside it. Too much work but it would look so cool! Where are the after-market head and tail lights? APC? Anyone?

    I did it one time. The whole socket popped in. I was able to use a metal wire or tweezer to put it back in place and pull it down. No need to take everything apart because the wire was still connected to it and it didn't travel that far.

    At this point, I think I may just install a jumper across the fog-lamp relay so they stay on whenever the car is powered. If I like that, then perhaps I can replace those with brighter bulbs.

    good questions. Same thing happned to me tonight. I gave up after the first bulb went into hiding on top of the plate. I think the only way to get the cluster out is to peel the headliner back..which I am not about to do without trim removal tool. Broken clips suck

    anyone know if the console can be removed to get these bulbs out..

    That makes the fog lights stay on all the time, regardless of the car power or fog light switch on/off position. I tried it the other day.

    Still haven't been able to get it out. The holes are too small to stick anything through and aim it at where the bulb+holder might be at. I'm also not sure if the cable is still attached. Hope so though. Things I'm gonna try tonight is: drive up a steep hill. Because I think the holder has 'rolled' to the front (and thus a bit downwards also).

    I that won't work I'm also very curious as for how to get it out. Maybe put back the normal lights and head for the Prius Dealer?

    I'm at this moment also looking for a replacement for the.. (what is it called in English?) light under the sunscreeners (ladies use it for make-up etc). It's currently a Toshiba 12v5w, 29mm wide. I'm hoping a 31mm white festoon LED will fit. Any thoughts on this?

    The lights are powered when the car is in IGN-On or Ready mode. I first tried the simple jumper and found the same thing as you. My mod rewired the relay coil to pick 12v from an adjacent relay.

    I often find that a silver car is hard to see in cloudy conditions (and mine is silver), so the lights will be a big help.

    I also drive often on CA Highway 1, one lane each way, undivided and 55+mph. With the occasional fools passing, every bit of visibility helps.

    It's an interesting problem. Anything less than one watt/LED probably wouldn't really show. However once you get that strong cooling becomes an issue. If you place them inside the sealed light housing you build up heat around them, they go into thermal runaway and die. A way around this issue would be to run lucite rods or optical fibers from behind the housing up to those ten spots. Then the LEDs would be mounted behind the lens in a location where you could cool them.
