it could certainly be a tyre thing, but why didn't the 2013 go down 3 miles. curious.

Probably not. If there is, it should be in the owner's manual.

Even Michelin admits the Defenders are not so good at mpg. On their site, the Energy Saver A/S are 10 (out of 10), the Primacy are 9, and Defenders bring up the rear at 8.

What's interesting is that the 2013's EV mileage didn't suffer with the defenders but it appears that the 2012 did.

Well this morning I came up short on EV miles in the 2012 on my roundtrip to Home Depot, about 1.5 miles. Tonight, after changing tires I made the roundtrip with 1.5 miles to spare according to the guess-o-meter. It's 6 miles each way.

So if it's the tires then why didn't the 2013 loose 3 miles?

To sync / pair tire sensors you need an extra gadget. Here is 2012 thread that has some good information; How does the 2011 Prius TPMS work? | PriusChat

This thought just in; Maybe you corrected a brake friction drag problem when you switched tires. This would explain why the base PiP didn't have shortened EV mile on switched tire set. The test will be to see in Adv. PiP still gets longer "normal" EV miles when you switch the tires back.

Guess I'll just have to switch the tires back for the sensors to work properly. That will also help me see if your idea about the brake friction was the problem. If so then that would be wonderful!

Again, if you only had one PIP, you'd have no problem. :)

Just like my two-into-two exhaust EX500 bike: different tail pipe colour became my obsession. Ultimately resolved by trading to a four-into-one Hurricane, lol.

    Looking forward to your report.
If I remember correctly you said the 12' went through frequent brakes services with the former owner...So Chazz8 idea may be it.

Switched the tires back and now waiting for the cars to charge.

I contacted the dealership that had the 3 services of the brakes recorded. I was told that in their computer the service was recommended to the customer twice and the customer declined. It might show on Toyota's network as being done but it wasn't. Only after the car was traded in was a regular brake fluid service performed by the dealership in preparation for the car becoming a Toyota certified hybrid.

I'll tell you that the 2012 that has spent it's life in SC looks almost like new underneath and in the wheel wells. The 2013 looks fine but you can tell it's seen salt for a couple of years.

Depending on how obsessive you are, you might want to clean up and spray some lube on it's suspension bolts. I found the rear suspension in particular has some rust-prone bolts and brackets.

Ours is garage stored, low mileage, on the wet coast, little snow. They do pre-emptively salt the roads though.

Switched the tires back and went back to a 2 EV mile difference. My guess is that there's a 1+ EV mile difference between the 2 plug-ins. The difference isn't as much as it first looked. I think that the 1+ mile difference could be the difference between the Advanced and Base models, difference in weight and electronics. I have noticed that running the A/C will take about 10% off of the EV miles you get.

At some point, probably this fall when it's cooler, I will get under both cars and spray some lube under there.
