Use the remote. Press the UNLOCK button twice in succession to unlock all doors (including the hatch)

The windows can be smashed or the jaws of life can be used.

If you have 3-Dr SKS, you can just press the hatch quickly to unlock all doors. That's what I do with our 05. It won't open the hatch unless you hold the release button for 0.8 secs so just a quick press will unlock all doors.

That's the best solution I've found if you don't want to change the programming to unlock all doors with the driver's door.

Has anyone been able to determine if it is possible to add the 2 additional SKS door sensors to a car equipped with only one?
    Effectively upgrading a 1-Door SKS to a 3-Door SKS.
If the wiring is in place, it seems like it would be a do-able thing.
    Anyone?

I have away from the computer all day and just read some incredible information on the 1-door vs 3-door SKS. It is so amazing to me that you post a question and within a reletively short period of time there is a variety of answers that evolve into a complete solution. Thanks to all who have helped me to better understand my locking/unlocking features.

If you want to add the additional doors to the 1 door SKS you would have to order the complete door handle for the passenger side, and the hatch release for it. The wires wouldn't be there for the passenger side, but there is power at the hatch, so it may be possible to install that one without running extra wires.

Then there's the FOB. It may be different. I'm sure we'll find out about that as they begin to appear on eBay.

Toyota doesn't run the wires for options the car doesn't come with. It's to do with maximum efficiency in production.

On the 3-door SKS this procedure toggles between the driver SKS opening just the driver door or all doors. There's no user procedure to change how the fob works in a 3-door SKS setup; it's a customization that the dealer (or someone with the tech tools) has to change.

Wow, I just tried that, and the beep IS annoying...

However, after thinking about it, it makes sense. Suppose you don't have SKS, so you choose to lock the doors via the remote. When you hit the lock button on the remote, you are not only locking the doors, but also setting the alarm. But, if one of the other doors is still open, then you can't expect it to set the alarm yet. Thus whether you have SKS or not, it makes perfect sense that all the doors need to be closed first.

An interesting thought though: what if you lock the doors manually/semi-manually (power locks) from the inside? Does the alarm still get set once the doors are closed if you lock them via this method? Or is it always required to use the remote or SKS in order to set the alarm?

I suppose I could test this by trying to set off my own alarm after using each method, but I'm too chicken... :(

Edit: Interesting thought about my previous car: I had a similar problem, but sorta the opposite. There was no remote or alarm system, so I would use the power lock on the drivers side to lock all the doors while getting out. Most of the time, I drove by myself, but whenever I had a passenger, I would often lock all the doors via the power locks immediately after opening my own door, which was quite frequently before they had a chance to open the other door, resulting in them getting locked in, haha.

(As a safety feature, the doors would never unlock by just pulling the handle, so one of us would then have to specifically unlock it via any method.)
