Did you remove the styrofoam in the trunk?

What’s bugging me is it’s filling a void that could have had a spare.

Don’t you folks look at whether or not it has a spare tire before you buy the car? If that is bugging you, why the heck did you buy it? For crying out loud, if you really have to have a spare, then fine, buy one. Whining here about it is not going to get you a spare tire. You would have to go buy one. I am sure they are available, just do it. Mendel, you really need some hobbies man.

Has anyone removed it or altered it on an LE, then replaced the flooring? I would love to know how much height is gained by doing this...and PICTURES please!

New members duke it out over a spare tire. Must be a Friday.

Addressing the "no spare tire" issue (in my car, not here) is still on my list of things to get done. Hopefully before I get a flat.

The previous Prius used black foam, and it just had cut outs for a spare and/or tools; no storage bins. So it wasn't like people would be looking at it often.

I'm wondering if Toyota was experiencing a shortage of black plastic now.

I gotta say that I actually prefer the white foam. Makes it much easier to see what's stored in the compartments. Especially in lower light conditions and when you're trying to only lift the rearmost portion to avoid taking the cargo mat/liner and deck board out.

Doesn't affect me that much anymore now that I've installed my spare tire and emergency equipment(no room for anything else), but I would've had no problem with the white if I had kept my old floor boxes.

Did you post a picture of your installation? I would love to see it.

Interesting thread! Saving it now. Thanks for the pictures folks. I dont live somewhere that a spare is strictly necessary, I've never actually used mine before. But waiting on delivery of my prime, glad to see that there's a way to add it if I ever feel the need (in advance of a longer road trip).

The one time I might have needed a spare was recently when I got home and found some construction debris in a storm got embedded in my sidewall, but i caught it so quickly and it was so jammed in there I was able to limp to the costco 10 mins from my house for a warranty replacement. (Same week I got the tires believe it or not!!)

I’m not sure you can do this with the Prime. Not enough room under cargo space. I could be wrong.

Correct. The spare only fits under the floor in a regular Prius, not the Prime.

I haven't dug around under the foam to see how thick it is - I do see some ominous-looking orange cables down there between the 2 pieces of foam on my LE, though. I usually keep some random stuff under the back of my '08 - some bike tools, an ice scraper, a compact camp chair, etc under the floor of my '08, but all that doesn't want to fit in the little cutouts in the white foam on the '23. I'm contemplating maybe digging out a few more slots, if possible, to accommodate my junk. Have to see how thick that foam is, though, and whether the floor would remain adequately supported.
