Denso Spark Plug Model

All the better to ward off fouling from oil (and maybe coolant?) burning, even though they're not aware of any...

 

Looking to pick up spark plugs soon.. I saw a post couple threads back about someone picking these up.. Anyone else use these? Thanks in advance!

Denso (4711) IXEH20TT Iridium TT Spark Plug,

 

Tough to say. I think the TT's cut some corners, therefore cheaper than SC20HR11? Maybe very close? Denso site is not that informative.

 

So which plugs would be beneficial for a 2010 prius?

 

I'm not really sure. My sense, and this is purely from what I've read on Denso site, I'm pretty clueless, is that both will perform the same, but there's a bit of a reduction in lifespan for the the TT's.

I actually found it a very difficult read, trying to make sense of it. They don't explain the differences well, and when I'm confronted with that kind of muddle: I'm inclined to say screw it, go with the spec'd plug, it's what $4~ extra per plug? It's a pain removing pieces to get at the plugs, as @NutzAboutBolts video attests (pinned in maintenance sub-forum).

I went to the parts department at my local Toyota dealership and the quoted me for part # 90919-01275, looks like that cross references with SC16HR11 what is the difference between that and SC20HR11?

 

My understanding is that the TT plugs have an iridium point at both both the center electrode and the ground electrode.

 

The original plug spec was Denso SC20HR11. After a few years I guess they found too much fouling with that plug, so they went to a slightly hotter plug (burns off deposits easier), named SC16HR11.

I don't think there's a lot of difference though. Anyway, the current, officially approved plug is Denso SC16HR11.

 

Good to know, I ordered 4 of the 16s from Mcgeorge Toyota online for $8.44 each they wanted $22.04 at the local dealership.

 

I wish those guys would ship to Canada. I might get killed on duty though.

For plugs at least: I have a local automotive retailer (small, busy place) that undercuts the dealership by typically around 25%. And this is something I won't be doing on our Prius till the 12 year mark, lol, so I can't get to torn up over it.

 

Sorry to wake an old tread but it is important to know if the IXEH20TT indeed runs good after 3 years. It is double tip with 0.7 mm gap instead of 1.1mm like in SC16HR11 OEM type.
The tip is Iridium but the ground is Platinum, the same as SC16HR11. Funny enough Denso name the SC16HR11 as a long life iridium but rated 80-100k miles meanwhile IXEH16TT 100k miles.
