Got my 2024 Prius Prime three weeks ago, and yes they said a second fob would be mailed to me. Delay was caused by a shortage of chips. But yesterday I received a message on my car's screen that a new key had been registered to my car. (I didn't know they could notify me that way.) So I suspect someone at the dealer registered a second fob, and they likely are mailing it to me next week.
Nope. That doesn't have anything to do with your second key. Most of us had that happen to us during the first few weeks. It can also sometimes happen when you set up the Digital Key function of the Toyota app. Just ignore it. It will happen again when you eventually get your second key in May. Also, they're not going to mail the second key to you. (I don't know why dealers say that.) You're going to get a notification on the Toyota app, then you're going to get a letter in the mail up to a month later. To get your second key, you're going to have to call a dealership and have them order one, then you're going to have to bring your car to the dealership so they can program the car to the key.
Okay. I’ve been hesitant to post on this thread. But, here’s how the second fob worked for me. I picked up my le on Dec 9, 2023. I got a notice on my app on my phone Jan 3, 2024. I called dealer to order part. Jan 9 I went to dealer for 45 minutes and got new fob. I never got a letter in the mail. But, was happy and surprised I got the second fob in about 4 weeks, with two major holidays in there.
In hindsight, maybe a contributing factor about getting my second fob so quickly is the fact that I registered on the app when I put the money down for the car. I knew the vin number 6 weeks prior to car delivery and registered on the app then. Maybe the app registration is key to getting that key?
It does not come with a that form of digital key, the phone can start/unlock/lock the car via manual input to the app, However you will need the physical key to drive the car. You can remote start the vehicle from the physical key fob by pressing the lock button 4 times and holding it with the final press
Both myself and the wife purchased a car on the same day. Mine was the Prius 2023 and her's was the 2023 Rav and we received the Fob but were not given our second Fob until the 10,000 mile maintenance. One would think something is seriously wrong and not just a chip shortage when one purchases two cars for $80,000 they cannot provide both keys at the delivery of the car.
The dealers are all instructed the cars are not to leave the lot until they install Toyota's App on your phone. It is policy. The dealer did not do you any favor. With the app they track your every movement and sell your data. Also they provide your driving record to insurance companies which you will receive quotes. It's an invasion of your privacy. I used this "service" for one month before uninstalling the app. In my case I sat in the dealership waiting for three hours for the sale of the car to be complete only to be led to my car in the lot while the "tech specialist" tried for over an hour to install the app on my phone and pair it with the car. Their wifi was failing and left the lot not having it installed with them asking me to make another appointment on another day for the installation.
I bought a prius last year with 1 key fob. This is not true the dealer didn't care. There was a sticker that said I'll get another key fob soon on the window, that was it
When I stated the dealer did not do you any favor it pertains to the Toyota App. It clearly states that and does not pertain to the key! Reread the first few sentences again.
My XLE purchase was Dec. 29th 2023. Today in the mail I received a small envelope with a metal key (not the FOB) in it. Nothing in the app about it. No instructions. I'll call them on Monday for further info. Hopefully they have a FOB there to program. Nice to finally see something.
The day I went to the dealership to pick up my Prius my salesman was in my car trying for over an hour to install the Toyota app. It was miserable. It failed numerous times due to connection issues with the dealerships wifi system. I finally stated to the salesman that I wanted to leave and I would install and pair the app at my residence. His reply was "we have been instructed not one car leaves the dealership until the Toyota app is up and running." I am not sure what you mean stating "Again, this is not true." Perhaps you had your own experience at your dealership but I am referring to mine. Hope this clarifies things.
I just called Toyota (800-331-4331) about our 2nd key FOB. Car build date was 2/24 and bought 4/10/24. They are in phase 6 of key shipments (based on build date), phase 7 will cover us starting in July. They said we will be notified both by mail and the Toyota app. KH
Is this "phase" numbering different than what was posted last October (post #26 in this thread)? Based on that, phase 8 covered Prius Primes built in Nov23-Jan24 and was supposed to start shipping keys in March. I'm in that group, and I have yet to see a service campaign in the app or anything in the mail.
The campaign timeline has been updated several times, and the picture you linked to was from way back in October of last year. (the updates have been reported in this thread and/or other threads) Current timeline of remaining vehicles: Phase 6: Car built Nov/Dec 2023 - 2nd key starting May 2024 Phase 7: Car built Jan/Feb/Mar - 2nd key starting July Phase 8: Car built Apr/May/Jun - 2nd key starting Sept
Yeah, I knew it was old. I scrolled through the thread and missed your PDF link. I guess I was more concerned that the phase numbering vs car build date seems to have changed. What was called "phase 8" in the Oct23 posting seems to be "phase 7" in the PDF you linked and now possibly something else according to @KH11's phone call. It makes it difficult to know what's really going on.
My car was built 12/23. It’s nearly the end of May, still no notice in app. I’m getting a little worried.
Your phase is scheduled to continue through the end of June. I wouldn't worry at all for at least another three weeks. SM-S901U ?
