Toyota's brand manager for advanced technology vehicles says "We continually pay attention to blog posts. We look at Prius Chat. We also do a lot of customer research and focus groups, etc. We hear consistently how people use the vehicle in everyday situations."

Another interesting comment he made had to do with the fifth seat, with more insight into the weight consideration. "Sure, there's a 3.3-kW charger taking up some space under the rear seat, but that could be moved if necessary. But, by eliminating the possibility of someone sitting in the middle back seat, the engineers could take out some structural weight. "They'd have to add more reinforcement just based upon how the tolerance is of passengers," Kokes said. "You've got to add another 250 pounds right there for that passenger because of us big Americans. This design, it was better to have four seats. In the future, there might be some changes, but for right now this is it."

I've never installed Entune and see no benefit from doing so. Put me down as I don't care.

You want seating for 3 in back, you buy a larger vehicle. There will be other plug-in choices.

It would have been hilarious if they made it with 4 seats in the USA but 5 seats elsewhere because Americans have a tendency to be kind of umm large. :)

The only time I've ever had three people in the back of my 2004 Prius, they had weights of 45 pounds, 70 pounds and 95 pounds. They really didn't fit because two of the three need booster seats which leaves very little room between them for the other person.

i'm sure people are. currently, i have no idea what my next vehicle will be. i'm still quite enamored with my pip.
but i'll continue to rag on toyota for their shortcomings, and possibly one day, they'll see the light.

As for me, I want my next car to have a drive train similar to my Prime Advanced with 2-seat capacity, hatchback, weighing 1000 lbs less, thanks to carbon fiber, with 75miles EV only, and 15gal fuel cell so I can drive cross country on a single tank of gas.
Think of the power and acceleration too.
It will kick your donkey! (mixed audience). I'll put in my order today.

Futile endeavor. Study marketing. It makes no sense pursuing a one-size-fits-all approach...

The one MAJOR thing (in my opinion) that is screwed up in the Prime is also screwed up in the G4 liftback - the lack of under-floor storage. That tub under the floor of my 2004 is one of the most useful features I've ever had in a car. I'll miss it when I get my Prime (hopefully, later today).

Don't worry youngin', you'll be around for more exciting cars out there. But don't forget folks, Toyota is a mass marketer; they would normally not give a damn about small niche cars like the Prime, but are forced to create them thanks mainly to our "oppressive" California style government. (Yea, California!). If it weren't for progressive states like California, we'd pretty much all be stuck driving lumber wagons, land barges, and trucks in the U.S. because that's what makes the most profit. Every day I see thousands of single occupant Stupid Useless Vehicles and trucks. Why, why, lord, why??

Europeans still have four seats and not as many of us weigh 250 lbs. Toyota is a world wide company and the car is a world wide product.

It is also a stepping stone to Prius Gen5. Not just a niche product IMHO.

Of course, Entune and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay are completely separate issues . . .

Elon Musk must have laughed his arse off when TOYOTA released a Plug In with a 11.6 inch screen and then saddled it with a very buggy , dated infotainment app known as Entune .

Entune is Toyotas unwillingness to let go of a 'possible subscription' revenue . HEY PRIUS PRIME owners - no Apps for your upgraded Plug In without subscription .. just like the 1st wave of Plug Ins .
    -
Tesla Model 3 , Honda Accord Hybrid and yes the very versatile Hyundai Ionic all feature Android Auto .. all have mature batt technology now .. and compelling prices . I have been a Prius guy since 05 and love the Plug In Advanced , but ENTUNE does not work reliably and NO FIX or OPTIONS or NEW REAL APPS like Google Maps , Google Music , You Tube RED , Audible or Spotify ..even the 2017 Prius Prime with 11.6 inch LCD screen .

Not only does this kill the future Prius' for me ..I wont be looking at any Avalon , Camry, Rav4 , Highlander or C-HR products either without Android Auto .

But what different is that than the built in nav? I've been doing that with my 2010 Prius since I got it without google maps...
