 Thanks for letting us know this discussion was a waste of time!

Change it or not: it's the owner's decision. I'm going to do change my ATF around 20,000 miles. Myself!

I agree 100% with Patrick and my own personal opinion is the PRIUS Transaxle oil needs to be changed because of the dielectric constant the fluid must maintain. It has to withstand HIGH VOLTAGES and really cannot be compared with a Chevy transmission fluid that has to LUBRICATE GEARS ONLY . Can you take a chance of having moisture buildup ( a conductor) over a period of time and shorting out MG1 or MG2? YOUR CALL!

As a paranoid prior owner of two Acuras that had failing transmissions, I had my Prius first done at 5400 miles. Looks like I may be doing the second at 20K after seeing the insolubles warning in Tumbleweed's report, lol.

After all, in order to reach maximum MPG in the Prius, the pulse and glide method has to be employed, which no doubt puts more strain on the transaxle than granny driving, a safety/longevity habit which I also find myself having difficulty breaking. :p

I will have to take a look under the C to see if the drain point and fill points are clearly identifiable like on the regular prius pictures I have seen around the site.
