it does have clips, so if you are only going to use it once in a while, you can connect to the jump point under the hood.

 

personally, i would just clip to the front, but i'm lazy, and the battery is a bit of a pain to get to. but if those wires are detachable, than you only have to install them on the battery once, and just plug in when you need it. i can't tell from the picture.

 

The Ctek he got has traditional clamps and a fused "pigtail" attachment that's meat to be "permanently" installed for those inconvenient battery locations.

Should OP get another car, he can uninstall the "permanen't" fused pigtail and take that to the next car.

 

I have a CTEK with both connection options. I suppose I could connect the "permanent" connection. I think you could even run cables out the hatch and still close it. But it's just as easy to put the alligator clips on, and the jump point under the hood is more readily accessible. I think the permanent connection is appealing if you like to tinker, that's about it.

 

I too have a Gen 2 that I stopped driving so much and have ignored too frequently - I jump started it yesterday and drove 30 miles on the highway, then this morning it was dead. I'm hoping the 4-Amp overnight charge will work for me, and then I can (hopefully) keep the battery "maintained" with the charger's maintain feature.
