I'd go with the insideev number. 1900 for the model S, 2035 for the volt (mix of gen I and gen II) Tesla looks like they shipped a lot of teslas to china and europe last month. They will sell all the december ones in the US so they can meet their 2015 number (shorter delivery means they can recognize the revenue this year).

Next year there will probably 50,000+ model S and 24,000 model X, but this is world wide. Less than half will be in the US. I can see the model S beating the prius v in the US next year, but not the camry hybrid or prius c. It will of course outsell them by the metric of dollar volume instead of units though. The earnings phone call had a 23% margin for the S, not including ZEV credits. ZEV credits added $39 million last quarter.

Aqua/prius c is the best selling hybrid world wide. It will take until at least 2020 for tesla to unseat it with a model 3 and possible factory in china.

 

We now have California sales results for the first three quarters (CNCDA.org).

For plug-ins I calc 44,327 sold in Ca. out of 81,120 nationwide so 55% of all plug-ins were sold in Ca. for YTD 2015 (thru Sept).
