Stop spending money. The only thing to do is get a new or rebuilt engine and water pump. Otherwise your just wasting time and money. It happened to me and I did it right the first time. Expensive but no choice. I drive a can in NYC and it has happened to other cabbies. Not uncommon. Usually #1 sometimes 4.

Is there a gasket on that, or just a bead of sealant? It seems at least, Toyota has put some thought into this, that appears to be a functional baffle, designed to stop a direct blast of oil, and channel it back into the sump. The oil residue is very dark looking: are you following the US 10K interval, and lots of high speed driving?

Oh, and where would the spigot for the PCV valve be, on the cover you're holding? Is it just off camera, in the cleanest corner?

Just a bead of sealant. The vehicle did 6k oil change intervals, mostly highway driving

This is on the old 2010 engine we pulled out of my sisters car. It has around 190,000 miles. Working on my project 2004 Prius today and had some spare time while waiting on bondo to dry I pulled the EGR vavle on the old engine

Wait, isn’t 1,3,4,2 the firing order? I’m pretty sure the cylinder numbers standing in front of car from left to right is 1,2,3,4

You need to have your engine rebuild. Don’t waste your money on trying other things your engine is making that noise due to the pistons and head gasket is most likely bad. Also have you checked your coolant level I am sure it’s getting Lowe that a sure sign of the motor going bad and needing repair. Also usually the Coolant reservoir will have a lot of pressure that’s also a sign that the motor is bad

The first time I removed and replaced an EGR cooler it took 5 or 6 hours. Even with experience it takes a long time. If you want to finish in a day, I’d buy a new cooler. Cleaning and soaking can take a long time, depending on condition.

The EGR pipe is easy to remove. It’s just a canary in a coal mine. It can indicate whether the EGR and cooler are clogged but cleaning it won’t fix anything.

Just so you know, Ray is the real deal. He came to my house and helped me replace my EGR cooler. At one point, I was ready to give up, but Ray kept going!

I since moved to Oregon, and now that I’ve done this work, I’ve been able to host two meetups and pay it forward. I found that using a GearWrench and just laying on top of the engine makes it pretty easy to reach those EGR cooler bolts way in the back. Not pretty-looking, but it gets the job done.

I have 199618 miles on my 2010. NO PROBLEMS.
Next week I'll be changing the oil, both coolants, cleaning the egr circuit, and I already have a cleaned
cooler, spark plugs, and intake manifold. I was going to do the ECTV, but I replaced the fluid 30,000 miles back.
Last time I did the egr/manifold, it took 4-5 hours start to startup. It was the first time I did it.
And I was watching the videos along each part.

I will "TRY" to video bolts and nuts every seems to have problems with.
I never ran into any problems removing any of them. Or re-intalling them.

Neither the original, or the one I purchased (egr cooler) were completely clogged.
The original one was only sooty. Lot's of highway driving I imagine helps to keep it clear.
