Cusco vs. Plus Pkg Sway Bar

I just had a wild and crazy idea about these rear ASB's. I can't say I'd recommend doing this, and don't come blaming me if you end up upside down somewhere, someday.

Looking at the Cusco ASB in the pictures provided by Philatc (post #2 in this thread), I think it is obvious that this bar would install on Prius G3 in addition to any of the other ASB's that mount using end links to the lower shock mounts. In other words, you could
run them both at the same time!

Thanks buddy! I have not had any issues with the bar and now that Ive lowered the car well lets let say handling is way improved. Waiting on a tower brace to come in from Japan of course. I know it wont be a Corvette but I can pretend

 

That's me too, man - I'm droolin' for my first Prius, ever. It's on the boat now and due to hit California on about 2/15. It's a '12HB/Trim5/ATP/Blizzard/Bisque.

While on the phone doing this deal, I was offered individual Prius Performance Plus components installed at the port for very attractive prices. I chose the PPP springs and the PPP rear ASB.

It was pointed out to me that by buying these components from Toyota, and having them installed by Toyota, they would be included in the vehicle discription, and covered by warranty. Pretty cool, huh? Suspension issues? No problem. Alignment issues? No problem.

To the above, I am looking at 17" forged wheels and a tower brace; maybe some underbody stiffeners.

You're right, it's not a Corvette; I'm glad it's not. Been there, done that.

What springs did you choose?

I went with the Tanabe DF210's and love the drop. I just took my car into the dealership and instead of the normal 1 hr to change the oil this time it took 2hr's. Every tech seemed to want pics of my car which I don't mind that but the wait... The install was really easy and I kinda wish I had the choice to have Toyota install them like you did. Then again some of the techs out here are confused if you can lower the Prius. When I mention the Plus pkg, they seem to not have a clue what it is until I show them. I wish I was able to order and receive my parts fairly quickly instead of months. ( like my signal mirrors, which I'm still waiting on) I will say that there is no immediate mpg change. I've cleared out my "Trip B" to see what the MFD will say in three or four tanks. I will be holding on to my old springs just incase I need to bring it in for a warranty issue. Take some pics of your baby when she comes in. Speaking of the wheels, I had mine painted in BP and they look awesome!:rockon: "Lowering your Prius must be a Cali thing" - dealer tech. I think I just dreamed up a static test that would shed light on the effectiveness of these rear anti-sway bars. You car owners with RASB's can help fine tune this technique.

Just thinkin' -

Using jack stands, support the car's FRAME at the front of the car - as widely spaced left to right as possible - but not lifting the front tires off of the ground at all. This, I hope would prevent body roll during the next steps.

Then, using a low floor jack, begin jacking up one rear wheel, lifting at the lower shock mount, or under the lower spring mount on one side only. While jacking up slowly, a point should be reached where the rear wheel on the opposite side begins to rise off of the floor.

A measurement of the height of the jacked wheel above the floor when the opposite wheel first leaves the floor, should be a yardstick for the comparison of rear anti-sway bar effectiveness, no?

Mine either, I just went in & said that I wanted the TRD RSB for my 2010 Prius & they ordered it for me, got it for $220 with no sales tax since I bought it from a dealer in Oregon!

Here are some pics of my Plus RSB.

 

I have dual RSB's on my 09 Corolla. I have the TRD bar & a 19mm Ultra Racing RSB. They work great together & improve the handling even more. The car is even more neutral with both of the bars.

I also have a rear lower 2-point chassis brace.

Funny how some of these sway bars are not bushed to the axle or a cross member. I guess they just twist the bar because of how tightly they are mounted. Frankly, I can see the Cusco is mounted rigid to the spring mount, but your Ultra Racing RSB seems like it would pivot on the single lower shock mount bolt. Oh well, what do I know.

What's that we see up front on the Corolla? After market front sway bar, right?

If you look at the Ultra Racing RSB it mounts to each lower strut bolt AND the same bolt that mounts the TRD RSB. You can see the white tab with the bolt through it just on the front side of the RSB.

 

Oops! Yes indeed; I stand corrected. I didn't see that forward mount bolt.

No worries, I just wanted to make sure you knew that it wasn't only mounted to the lower strut bolts.

 

Anyone done this yet? Add the cusco sway bar to a prius plus sway bar!
