Did something similar. My wife said next time let me out. So next time I told her "you can jump now", but she refused. I don't understand women.
I've had both my '05 and '10 up against the limiters, no handling problems with either one at that speed. Since we're posting non-Prius top's, my personal best, 825 Kts (990 MPH) in an F-18C.
That's pretty impressive! But I bet it didn't feel as dangerous as a 1928 Chev with no body, just chassis, a fruit box for a seat, haring around the farm at 40 mph. It was so bumpy you almost couldn't see where you were going. My mates and I were about 12. Sometimes I wonder how we survived childhood.
I25 to Albuquerque's speed limit is 75. I go 78 at the most, trying to get that good mileage. I get 46 mpg. I thought the owners manual said don't go faster than 85, so I haven't. I thought it would hurt the engine, but I guess lots of others have exceeded that!
Ive always been a "slow" driver, but never more so than since I bought this Prius. I had it up to 70 MPH last night on the way from Ann Arbor to Detroit. Car handled fine.
103 mph some where between Los Angeles and Houston. Had to scoot a little bit to get to the next clearing. Felt surrounded by unattentive drivers. Other personal best was 164 mph in '04 G35 sedan just north of 'Vegas before I ran out of cajones. Also 91 mph on a KTM at El Mirage.
Hit 121 in my baby before I decided to let off the gas, not sure if the computer malfunctioned and didn't automatically cut off the power or maybe it was because I had turned off the traction control...either way 121 and was still going
Houston to Los Angeles 118 MPH @ 61 deg F, flat road, 7 mph head wind Los Angeles to Houston 124 mph @ 72 deg F, down hill, 4 mph tail wind Houston to Los Angeles 100 mph @ 68 deg F, up hill, 10 mph side wind
From San Francisco down to Los Angeles cruising between 80 to 95 mph the whole way. It felt stable and milage was displayed at 43.5 mpg. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
My 2010 is governed at 116. But once the battery depletes I find it maintains 112 in cold weather, 108 in hot weather. The fuel economy at this pace is 29mpg. I can hold the throttle wide open for over 10 minutes and the engine temp goes to 205. If pulling trailer at over 90 mph and the rpms at 5200 eventually the electronic motors get hot enough to electronically limit the engine to 4500 rpm. When pulling an open trailer I can hold the engine at 4500 rpm on 11 hr trips and not get electronically limited. With no trailer I can hold the throttle wide open til the tank runs dry at 5200 rpm. I then refill the tank and can do it again. This engine tolerates wide open throttle for hours at a time over and over using 0W-40 and remains tight and quiet. I can use 0W-30 in the winter and still see no oil consumption. btw: 21mpg pulling a trailer. My 2nd gen lasted 210k miles and the motor was still quiet when it got totalled. My 3rd get has 40k of use like this and a total of 170k and counting. Hope this clears up max speed questions and durability/oil choice for this application!
Minor note, one needs to compare the indicated MPH vs a standard like GPS or mile-markers and clock. Bob Wilson
