You and I might feel that way, but I believe a lot of people love their ICE along with its sounds and feel or else I wouldn't be serenaded each Friday night/early Saturday morning with their multiple power outbursts. Probably why NASCAR is very popular as well. Having an EV is probably repulsive if not downright unthinkable, irregardless of the cost of fuel.

Toyota launched the first HSD cars in 1997, and the second generation HSD in Prius in 2004, and the first diversification outside the prius line was the far more expensive Lexus RX and HiHy in 2005, i.e. 8 years before it diversified. The Volt launched in Dec 2010, and the first diversification ELR (more expensive than the volt) is expected out this year, i.e. in about 3 years. If they had truly followeed Toyota's model for the Prius and HSD, they would not introduce a second car for another 5 years and their sales would be much lower than they are now.

Of course almost all the cars on one site are on the other.. and cars.com often list cars for a month after they are sold.
But yes they have 7-9 thouands Volts for sale. So they finally have an average of 4 volts per chevy dealer authorized to sell the volt, and if they can increase their profit margins by pumping out volts at full speed for a while, then shifting to Malibus or something else, what is wrong with that model? You complain about cost but don't seem to understand how manufacturers can help reduce it.

I'm not sure who are the "enthusiasts" you keep referring to as you never provide any citaitons, so I don't belive they exists and you just like to sling FUD.

Enthusiasts like me are saying the Volt is on a reasonable trajectory for an innovation, which is a totally different thing. The Volt is the best selling PHEV by a large margin -- more than all other PHEVs combined. It is the only PHEV that would be in the top 10 of hybrid sales, and outsells all Lexus hybrids. It might not be selling as much as you hope, but its on a good trajectory. The Pip sales, however are not.. maybe that is the next generation to which you are referring?

Agreed there is definitely some of that going on too. (And other Anti-volt rhetoric as well). But not all nascar drivers find the EV or Volt an issue..
    JimmyJohnson's daily driver is volt

So does Indy racer Simona de Silvestro, and its self-proclaimed "car guy" Jay Leno's daily drive as well.

With folks like that maybe EVs like tesla and the Volt will avoid being labeled as just "green", and instead be labeled as great cars.

I'm not talking about the THS I & II. Only THS I was for the Gen I Prius. HSD only appeared on the Gen II followed by the Camry Hybrid, HS250, CT200, GS450h, LS600h, ES350h, etc. not necessarily in that order.

Oh I see, you want GM to wait until after it launches gen2, or maybe until 2017, rename a minor variation of the voltec/e-flex to something sexier as it launches a number of variations using it. Sounds like a plan, and I think GM agrees as its not even going to call the ELR a "voltec" platform (see The Volt is the only Voltec, says GM).

Agreed, if Chevy does the Cruze Plug-in Hybrid, I think that would be a winner. Of course the issue of eating into the Volts' sales will have to be considered. 2014 will be an interesting year, to say the least.

If the Volt = "game changer", GM would be struggling to keep up with overwhelming demand.

To date, that has not happened.
