Great news! Wonder if Toyota has actually resolved the issue. I guess we will find out eventually.

Sounds to me like the number of warranty claims finally hit the critical mass.
I don't believe they would be stupid enough to replace it with the same flimsy part.
I mean it looks like the plastic you'd use to pack fruit.

I have the same issue with the rear cracked trim. Just happened last week. I have an appointment with the dealership next week for the rear door recall and the cracked trim issue. I'll post what their response is. 2023 prius 3.jpg 2023 prius 2.jpg 2023 prius 1.jpg

I guess we should all hope this piece cracks before the warranty is up. Hopefully Toyota will address this design/manufacturing flaw soon.

Their track record is more like Delay, Deny, Defend. Issue after issue they show their colours.

I had the exact same issue with mine. I told the dealer about it, and they agreed to replace it under warranty.

Did they use the term “warranty”? That’d be big news.

I didn't pay that much attention, because I don't care what they called it, as long as it got replaced.
They called today to say that the Prius emblem is in. I don't car so much about that as the free car wash.

If the paperwork says something about TSB, warranty or whatever, it'd be good to post here.

Now I wish they'd do something about my faulty door lock. But it never happens when I am there.

A quick update: I sent an email directly to Toyota's C-suite on December 8th, and had the piece replaced under warranty on January 21st. The entire process was resolved as fast as one could reasonably expect with holidays, scheduling, etc. The representative that reached out to me along with the service manager I worked with were very professional. I'm happy that this was eventually covered under warranty as it first cropped up almost a year ago.

An interesting thing to note is that the service manager at the dealer said that Toyota was aware of this issue, and that the part had been redesigned/changed to fix the issue. I can't speak to the accuracy of this statement because I checked the part number on the service form but it showed the exact same part number (81581-47080). To my eyes nothing seems to have changed, including the amount of flex in the plastic. Does anyone know how Toyota handles updates to parts and whether they would use a new part number or just keep the old number?

I would still highly recommend anyone who has this issue, regardless of whether it was covered under warranty or not, to reach out to Toyota directly so that it is documented. I saw a post on another forum that said the replacement they got under warranty broke again, so it's likely just a matter of time until this issue will crop up, especially if the part has not been redesigned. Please refer to this link with emails for Toyota's C-suite.

Was it warranty or “good will”? I’m suspecting the latter.

The service documents stated warranty. Not sure if the docs will say something else if its covered under goodwill.

I didn't type this out originally but the reason why I decided to basically restart this whole thing after almost 8 months is because another crack had appeared on the piece, but in a different location. Once I sent photos over to the service manager they immediately ordered the part and scheduled a visit to replace it.

If the issue was the result of a manufacturing defect(ie, err in plastic formulation or molding), I don't see the part number changing. The problem because the piece didn't meet the part specs. If the part specs needed changing, that should mean a new part number.

In the case of my dealer, they have no good will.

Do they cite a Toyota warranty document, or just the word “warranty”? If the latter, could just be the service writers license.
