I now see what my problem is...I have no vision....

Those two tanks look completely different to me. I wouldn't even know where to begin with starting that swap.

    Good point.

Maybe fall back to euro-spec 2nd gen tank?

There’s been times I’ve looked at the two tanks and scratched my head and said how on earth is this going to work. If you think that looks confusing look at the difference in the way the emissions is layed out between the two lol.

Upon looking into the euro tank I’m finding that there is no difference in the tune, ECU, engine or emissions. Just the bladder is the only difference. Wondering how on earth I would even find one for sale. Typed in euro spec 2nd gen Prius tank and nothing is really coming up.

Check on international shipping. I'm sure they've all been asked before.

I have seen the Prius Gen2 fuel tank sold on Rockauto . Thinking used/or salvage one would be a gamble because of fuel pump failure. the labor process of removal of said fuel tank is PIA. The EVAP system would be problematic for myself. The rewiring, reconnection of EVAP lines , filler tube connection(flex steel) and wire connection a lot to consider. I was of the thinking the Matrix, Yaris fuel tanks may be candidates as well However you may serve as a instructive person on this undertaking. Good Luck and God Speed be with you John Glenn

I’ll try and log my progress on the swap and keep it as detailed as possible. It’s gonna be a few months till I undertake this project so for now it’s lots of info gathering. The corolla, Matrix and Pontiac vibe tanks are the same and the chassis is the closest to the Prius. I thought about the Yaris but it’s not much bigger than the other tanks and harder to find at the junk yard. Considered an 18.5 gallon Camry tank too but the tank is 8 inches wider than the Prius tank and I don’t think it would fit. The Camry tank would give me an 800-850 mile range.

Thanks for the link. After looking at the euro spec tank the swapping of emissions looks to be as much work as the corolla tank.

The corolla tank is on top and the bladderless European version below. Now things are starting to look a lot simpler.

I had to look at both tanks for a bit to see how it’s gonna work. Finally figuring out the emissions and how it needs to be routed.

So I looked at how the emissions is going to have to be set up on the tank swap. About 95% of the Prius emissions matches the corolla emissions. Same electrical connections on all sensors except the plug for the fuel pump. I’ll use the Prius wiring harness so it will be pretty much plug and play except for the fuel pump connector. If I cut my stock tank open I can use the harness that connects from the outside to the tank to the internal fuel pump then it will be 100% plug and play for the wiring harness but I don’t want to ruin a perfectly good tank . Only difference sensor wise is the Prius has a temp sensor and the pressure switch valve has an extra vacuum port. I thought the emissions were gonna be two different animals between both cars but I’m glad to find out they are almost exactly the same.

The project is still a few months out. I’ll probably start a new thread when it’s under way.
