Yes, i traveled 1 mile during the test (it's almost exactly 1 mile from the gas station, where i started, to my subdivision, where i ended)

today i will have the opportunity to do some tests.

i will drive at a constant speed for a full 5 min block. (it will be at 50 mph)

i will also drive it for a partial block...time depends...i know the route and the stop and not sure how much time it takes to get there but i know its less than 5 mins.

i will also drive a short distance of a min or so on stealth or as high a mileage as possible then stop and sit for the remainder of the time and try not to consume gas...OR maintaining the average for the short period ie. creating a "shorter than 5 min consumption bar"

i will duplicate the later except that after i stop i will run the defrost (it should be more than cold enough@!!) to enable the engine to run a significant portion of the down time. iow, consuming gas AND lowering the average

i will report back here is about 2 hours, give or take. (unless we are invited to eat breakfast, then it will be longer. dont anticipate this, strong possibility no one will be home when we get there)

ok, posting sooner than i thought but simply using my laptop to post

leg #1: driving the whole 5 mins, trying to maintain constant instaneous mpg...didnt work out but the average was relatively close.

leg #2: drive for part of the time, then stop try not to burn any gas

leg #3: drive to get best possible mileage bar. a 99.9 mpg bar is the goal here but driving only 2-3 mins about half or so.

leg #4: drivng the same as leg #3, but burning gas during the stop periods to see if anything changes.

    will list data as follows

    a) mileage at start of leg
    B) tank mpg at start of leg
c)mileage at the end of leg
d)tank mileage at end of leg
e)miles traveled and est mpg for that leg
    f) consumption bar reading

    data
    leg 1
    a)51.9 c)56.1 e)4.2 [email protected] mpg
    b)60.8 d)60.4 f)~60 mpg

    leg 2
    a)64.1 c)66.7 e)2.6 miles @ 58 mpg
    b)59.5 d)59.4 f)~55 mpg

leg 3 notes: drive time about 2 mins 20 sec
    a)74.7 c)75.9 e) 1.2 miles@ 90 mpg
    b)59.9 d)60.2 f) ~ 85 mpg

leg 4 notes: turnaround with defrost running after stop
    a)75.9 c)77.1 e)1.2 miles @ 49.3 mpg
    b)60.2 d)60.0 f) ~65 mpg

couple notes here. there was a time gap of about 33 seconds with leg 4 time being just under 3 full minutes. but the results were predictable. i have actually done similiar tests several times before and the results are the same pretty much. in both of these legs, when moving, i was at 99.9 for approximately 60% of the trip and between 20-50 mpg for the rest.

leg #1 and #2 are different as leg #1 bar is a full 5 mins, leg #2 bar is only about 3 mins long. but it takes 5 mins to gather 3 mins of consumption data, in reality, the first 3 mins of the time period is where all the data for the bar is located. the rest would read zero.

Bottom line - It looks like the time periods where there is no movement AND the ICE is off don't count in the 5 minute bar calculations.

    Thanks
