Consumer Reports review and ratings of Gen 5 Prius—with side-by-side comparison to Gen 4

I think this isn't a Prime comparison.
With the hybrids, there should at least a suitcase advantage to the gen4 in terms space to go with the larger opening.

 

I'll take a crack at this one:

There was once a time when a monthly magazine could actually cover a fair number of the products people were interested in buying, to the degree that the advice they offered was timely and useful.

There's just so much more stuff available now. They could publish a new issue daily and still not have coverage as complete as they did back then.

An older family member has been gifting us a subscription for decades now. Years ago, I'd read it. Now, I rarely even glance at it before recycling it, because it seems to only cover stuff I'll never have a use for or things I bought a different version of eight months ago.

I just don't have the heart to tell him it's useless now.

I saw one yesterday parked, looked inside, the windshield is too raked for me and the pillars too intrusive. I really like my 96 Toyota truck visibility and more upright windshield every time I drive it. I traded my Volt in for visibility, especially for an older person it can be a safety issue. Plus it is annoying on a daily basis.

 

I saw a Volvo station wagon* a few weeks back, likely from that era. Horizontal "beltline", generous windows all 'round; had to stop and stare.

* about as rare as dinosaurs now...

 

Yikes! And they continue to search for the ultimate bottom of their credibility on the new platform..

They say the new Prius was "supposed to be sleeker and more aggressive"

--I mean... who are they trolling? Toyota? They just look like fools.

Then they say it's more noisy than the prior generations? What??

Then he's talking about all the older Prii being used as taxi's and how the G5 isn't as good in that capacity. I missed the memo where Toyota stated they designed the Prius as a Taxi. Clearly, they were trying to get away from that poor reputation with the new one. Then he's lauding the legroom in the prior gens while sitting in the back of a G5 displaying at least a football's width of legroom.

You're probably thinking of the 240. They were available in the USA until 1993ish, not sure aboot your side of the border.

If I thought it were practical to put a modern powertrain in one of those shells I'd likely be driving it. Just lovely cars.

 

Closest anybody can get to Fishbowl glass in a vehicle now days seems to be the Range Rover. It probably compromises drag CD but new ones have a great visibility .... and as ~50miles plug-in option (75 on WLTP). Too steep for us retired folks though.
