Hydrogen is 1/3d the efficiency of BEV transportation and always will. Competitors like NIO are another "PowerPoint" Nikola and doomed in the USA market ... they are not even here. Bob Wilson
If the reports are true, NIO will have solid state in consumer cars while Toyota is doing prototypes.
Nio is on the serious increase because they have full backing from their socialist regime, as S. Korean manufacturers have backing from their government .... whereas there's less of that in the US .... .
politics != engineering ... China suffered multiple rocket launch failures in 2019. Korea Inc ... development funded by GM's Volt and Bolt products. GM's value added engineering remains less impressive than GM ordering EV drivetrains from Korea Inc. This is my memory of the history of Volt and Bolt development and sourcing. Bob Wilson
It is worse than that. In their annual car issue they always have an article listing the cars with the best mileage. Prius vehicles had been out for a number of years so I was anxious to see how they did compared to other hybrids. There was no Prius in their list. There wasn't a single hybrid! Apparently CR didn't consider these 'real' cars, so they didn't include them in the list of 'cars' with good gas mileage. A few years later, they finally decided to include hybrids in their annual list of cars with good gas mileage. Now it is BEVs that they don't consider to be real cars. There are no BEVs on their annual list of most efficient cars.
