Confirm Break-in driving

I build High performance Harley motors as a hobby and there are two things that a proper break in deals with,

1. Is the heat that the rings and the new parts produce. In the Harley world it is called heat cycles. Overheating of the rings causes them to lose there tention which causes the loss of compression. Therefore short drives and then letting it cool down would be good.
Driving fast in heat is a killer. If it is a Hot when you pick it up do not drive it in heavy traffic. Wait to pick it up when you can drive it easy and it is not Hot.

2. Breaking in of parts produces Shavings in the oil. I would never drive a new engine more than 500 miles without changing the oil and filter to remove the shavings. Then again at 1000 and then regular 5000 miles with Syn oil.

It may seem like overkill but it is the average life of a Harley rider
