Featured Conditions best for Eco, Normal and Power mode

    In my opinion, there's no reason to ever change them, unless you get used to one besides the default and change it every time you get in the car. It doesn't change vehicle performance, just "pedal feel".

    When we got our 2010 I played around with ECO, vs Normal, vs PWR, for maybe the first 6 months. I found the pedal travel in ECO maddening/tiresome. I believe with the 4th gen (and Prime) the pedal travel in all modes has been shifted, so that ECO is about where Normal was on 3rd gen? Anyway, getting back to my point:

    After about 6 months, I got tired of the excessive pedal travel in ECO, set it in Normal mode, stuck with that since. As the other responders have said: the main difference is just pedal travel. There's a few hvac tweaks as well, don't much care. There is no under-the-hood variations, say valve lift, torque, horsepower: it's the same in all modes.

    the 'ev/ev auto/hv buttons are the ones that require easy access. horrible on the pip.

    I find eco mode great for city driving. It makes it easier for the slower energy efficient starts from a stoplight. On longer trips on a freeway...it's not so nice. It's more work holding your foot down farther over long periods of time, which is really tiresome if you're not using cruise control. That's when normal mode comes in handy.

    I no that acceleration 0-60 in eco,normal or power mode result in about the same time in the end,at least with gen. 3,but I read somewhere that in power there is slightly more energy of the battery granted from the get go in power mode but smoothes out in the end,at least in gen. 3.
    Maybe similar to the acceleration 0-60 in EV-mode with the Prime,which is faster than in HV-mode at the beginning,but in the end takes a about 2 seconds longer .

    Okay I've read through most of this thread and this feature being new to me, I did not notice it on my 2010 for the heating and cooling system.

    So when I have only the fan on and no heat and no cool and just wanting ventilation air movement what does the system provide. Is it actually consuming more energy because something else is happening I'm not aware of.

    It will draw heat if cabin is less than set temperature...if you have AC off and heat is less than interior temperature
    You will have only fan running ...
    I have similar question and with my probes hooked on various cable connections blower is only that is running

    And you are like me...I still didn't even look in my passenger door compartment to read anything....
    Chat is much faster and here are many great people that answer almost anything you are looking for
    P.S be careful with trunk light...
    Bottom right side....another thing that is only on advanced model
    Handy in the darkness.

    if the fan is the only thing on, then that is all that is pulling power. if you're wondering why the ev estimate drops when you turn the fan on, join the club. we have been wondering the same thing since 2012.

    not me, my opinion is you don't get something for nothing. The fan draws electrons, electrons consume energy, thus the EV estimate drop.

    but it doesn't change if you turn the a/c on. so what toyota is saying is: 'if you use the fan, you're going to lose x amount of ev miles, but if you also turn on the a/c, it won't affect anything'.

    Still, the reality of the losses will be what it is, regardless of Toyota's prediction.

    I don't see that to be true, when I turn on Climate to Auto I lose about 1.5- 2.0 miles of EV

    turn the fan on and see how much it drops. then hit auto, and tell me how much more it drops.

    Does auto turn ac on? It doesn't on our Canadian 2010, might depend on country tho. That's actually just the way I like it, btw.

    Ok @bisco I went out to my car, didn't find any way to just turn on A/C and not have the fan turn on, please correct me if I'm wrong

    There is a switch to to turn on...i didn't play long enough to see if have three way switch....

    As you know, auto refers to fun speed and vent outlets with relation to temp difference between actual and set temp. It will be with or without A/C depending on how you left it last auto session (at least in my area).
