But you don't get the L-ion traction battery and heat reducing windshield.

Could pay a tint shop $80 +\- and have them tint your windshield with the uv reducing clear stuff...

How much lighter is the Li Ion batt compared to the reg one? Is weigh the only real perk of the Li Ion? Just wondering...

With a 2 you also don't get the porcelain white interior trim.

I was gonna add a sarcy emoticon, but thought the universal hat of the white trim negated the need, lol.

$500 more for lithium Ion is no brainer , even running my Eco @ low 35psi all 4 tires and still getting the same mpg's as normal Eco tire pressure.

I believe that the L-ion is 40 pounds less, but I believe that the L-ion is more efficient than the NiMH. That is just my opinion with no facts to back it up with. Somehow I think that the windshield would be better than clear tint. The Eco badge is also pretty nifty.

Based on your recent pictures, you have carved the foam pieces nicely. But it looks like the tire is sticking out. Does it still cause coroplast cover to buckle? I guess it does if the weight is not places on the top of the tire. I assume one could use some additional foam or whatever to make the surface even. After all, how often do you need to reach there?

Actually, the tire does not stick out. It is flush with the foam. The jack is 1/4 inch high but the cover fits fine. No problem putting weight anywhere.

    Great job.

In a the photo it looks like you have the tire resting on the felt batting rather than directly on the metal floor. Am I seeing that correctly?

When things get better on this forum (apparently when someone reboots the server), could you please post hi-res pictures as you did in post #1? In cleanmpg forum I can only see the low-res pictures. Thanks in advance!

BTW, was it difficult to carve the foam?

Yes, I removed the felt from the removed pieces of foam and placed it under the tire.

    Merged.

I will post hi res later. I cut the foam with a sawzall using a long steel cutting blade. The trick is to mark the cut properly. First cut smaller than needed and trim out more until the tire fits.

The reason I asked was that I was wondering if you placed the tire directly on the metal floor if it we be lowered enough to allow for the insertion of the roll-up tonneau cover (that comes with the 4) into the cut out that is designed to hold it. Not a big deal, just wondering.

Even if you leave out the felt, the tonneu cover will not fit.

Does anyone know if spare tire is the same across Gen II - Gen III - Gen IV? I wonder if I could use my Gen II donut in 2016 model?

That is what I am doing. Gen 2 is T125/70D16. Gen 4 is T125/70D17. OEM tire size is 185/65/15 vs 195/65/15 so I see no prob using Gen 2 spare.

Need to update this. The two white fasteners are threaded. By pulling them up, I stripped them. They still hold the trays in place, however. I don't know how to remove them without stripping so do this at your own risk.
