Get this, morning's paper talking about 1mill Prius sales, reported Prius as most efficient gasolone car....no, that would be the Volt at 60 MPG combined equivalent... my point being, Chevrolet trained media to call Volt an electric car. Some nerve. I'm glad EPA says, no Chevrolet, Volt is a plug in hybrid.
Also note that the Lexus LS has an impressive Cd of 0.26, better than the funky shaped Nissan Leaf, albeit with a larger reference area.
I know, from early on GM wants people to associate Volt with EV by concealing the fact that it is really a hybrid (gas engine does drive the wheel). Well, Volt uses two fuel, gasoline and electricity generated from various sources (mostly fossil fuel). If Volt only drives on gasoline it is rated 37 MPG so technically Prius is still the most efficient gas car.
i still don't understand the 60 mpg. are you saying one complete charge and one full tank driven until both are empty will average 60mpg? because, if you don't charge as he said in the review, you're not going to average 60. or if you start with a full charge and drive 1000 miles without charging again, you're not going to average 60. the volt is not more efficient than the prius over a longish trip.
I don't know the history the lifetime 60 MPG but the video shows his trip that got 55 MPG. He drove 43.2 miles on the battery (could be multiple charges) and 56.9 miles on gasoline consuming 1.9 gallons of gas. Total distance is 105 miles. 105 miles / 1.9 gallons = 55 MPG. Of course that includes the battery miles. If you only count the miles driven on gasoline, 56.9 miles / 1.9 gallons = 30 MPG.
Yes, if I read, "all-electric Chevrolet Volt" again, I think I might throw up. I hope the car is a success, but "all-electric" is more than marketing spin, it's a blatant lie.
Yes, someone here said the tweaks in the Prius added 10mpg to the basic HSD performance. The ground clearance of the Prius is just as low, can't be good for the bumpers and longevity of the shocks.
Great .... O'bummer wants to turn the tax 'credit' into a rebate courtesy of 'we the people'. Aside, at least dude cleared up what the credit is. Yeah, that dude blew it about the 60 MPG 'if you don't want to plug it in'...... wrong, that would be 37 MPG. At its price, the car ought to get 60 MPG / no plug-in.
"Therefore the Volt can operate as an electric vehicle, series hybrid or parallel hybrid depending on the battery state of charge and operating conditions.[" [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Volt[/ame] I don't think Volt is a power split plug-in hybrid like PHV Prius is / will be ( or did I mess that up).
^^ Look at a picture of a Volt transaxle cutaway. You will think you are looking at a Toyota HSD until you realize that the motors and axle are reversed on the planetary gearset. The Volt is an HSD knock-off, but with a crappy ICE and a bigger traction battery and a bigger motor.
Nowhere -near- 3". Tpfun, have you ever even seen a Prius? Have you ever even driven a car? Maybe you don't have time? I know raping and killing little girls keeps you busy most of the time.
IIRC, the plastic shield, thing most likely to touch down is about 7" clearance from ground in the 2nd gen.
LOL Who would say a "regular" and truthful nick would actually hide a rapist? My, these are good news for criminalists. Quicker to find the bad guys! :mod:
