Clicking & Creaking Noise when turning, braking, accelerating!!

    This makes alot of sense.

    My measurements were done on a normal road and so they are definitely just approximates and therefore with such a small distance between the fronts - the actual difference could be minimal - and could potentially be evened out once I've replaced the bushing. On the topic of bushing - would you know of any easy methods to remove this bushing? I've looked on YouTube and one guys set the bush on fire! Another use a hammer and screwdriver to pop it out.

    I'll take the whole wishbone off as soon as i get a chance and start my analysis of it. It should be okay I reckon.

    I use a hammer an old crew driver or cold chisel. Take a note of the orientation of the old bush before knocking it out or take a picture " always a good idea".

    Also - out of interest - I'm thinking of eventually changing 2 of the 4 tyres on this car (both right side tyres - front and back end). The MOT is until April next year but I can see the tread indicators on the tyres and so this is something that concerns me.

    What tyres would be the best value for money and also any suggestions as to where to buy them cost effectively would be much appreciated.

    i wanted to take the wishbone off, check it, then remove the bushing before ordering the replacement - just incase i come across any complications and i end up having to get a completely new wishbone

    i'll take pictures all the way though

    would you put any lubrication on the new one to make it slip into the slot easily? Somebody on youtube recommended fairy liquid

    I always use a very light smear of Vasaleen, but generally you have to knock them in quiet hard with a hammer going round the edge bit by bit to keep it going in square to the whole. Unless you know a workshop with a press.
    As I have said before be careful of the orientation of the bush if there are any holes or slots in the rubber part keep the fitting alignment of these the same as the old bush.

    About tyres, this will sound big headed I am the UK/European PC tyre guru. Pc has a US specialist "F8L" a tough act to follow. A member that covers Australia, NZ, and Asia, and I do what I can to keep my end up in the UK. So let me know exactly what tyres are on the car with as much detail as possible on make model and state of ware.

    excellent stuff!

    okay - well basically - 2 tyres look pretty worn out but I want to get the alignment correct on this car first before I do anything.....and then I'll take photos of each tyre and hopefully you can recommend the best action for me to take. I don't want to change anything I dont have too, especially before the MOT expires (April 2014), so let's see - I'll take pictures when we move onto this chapter of tyres

    i can't find anywhere with a completely even ground so i've been trying to jack the car up on the road outside my house, where my car is parked. I can't seem to figure out where the front jack points are. I'm attaching a few photos i took of the underside of the car, so if anybody can point out where it is - i'd be grateful

    I jacked the car up finally - took the tyres off BUT then i couldn't get the wheel off no matter how hard i tugged on it!!

    am i missing a trick here?

    i've re-done the nuts on the wheel but would really appreciate some advice here. I was pulling quite hard but didn't want to risk breaking anything. I thought a wheel should just come off easily itself, once the nuts have been un-done?

    do i need a hammer? what else can i try?

    Okay - turned out that i just had to kick the tyre and it came off!

    ...but then the next step posed abit of a problem....removing the wishbone!!!

    Which nuts do i need to remove? I started by trying to move the 3 which connect the wish bone to the ball-joint, but these just were not moving at all!

    i'm attaching a photo that i took of the damaged bushing. It appears to have a nut on the top of it, aswell as beneath it - so does this mean that i would need to hold the nut at the bottom whilst spinning the top one anti-clockwise?

    it would still be nice to know where i can jack the front of the car up via front jack points

    i couldn't see the points from under the front of the car (photos posted in earlier post)

    Sam I will post some pictures of where to jack the car tomorrow.
    The bolt will probably need to be held while you undo the nut. Some of these bolts are going to be tough to move to start with, and I suggest you buy some WD40 and spray anything you think you may have to undo.

    From what I could see - there was a bolt on the big bushing, 1 on the small bushing and 3 around the ball joint....

    i have to undo all of these, with the small nut on the top going anti-clockwise, right?

    i'll stick abit of lubricant oil into these joints when i start doing the job. I think I'll order the bushing before re-attempting - I'll just assume the wishbone is healthy (so skipping the wishbone checking stage).

    Just remember (except in very rare circumstances) looking at the end of a nut to undo is always anticlock. Make sure you use the correct size socket or spanner, and always use the ring end of a spanner (not the open end) whenever you can.
    I am going to say you will end up with bruised knuckles till you get the hang of things "comes with the territory". The number of bolts sounds about right some may not slide out as easy as you would like once undone. This bit is called sods law, and some find a swear word or two comes in handy, and seems to help.

    okay - will order the bushing tomorrow and have a go at all of this next week - and in the meantime, if you can think of any tricks and tips to make things easier for this mission of mine, then it's all welcome :)

    Yes that's the stuff, but as I have found the oil is very difficult to get hold of in his country in small quantities.
    I cannot find any in this country but I believe Interdynamics in the US do supply small containers. You can find the UK arm of the company lower on that page and it may be worth emailing them ( I did with no joy about 18 months ago). I believe the standard bottle of oil as supplied to A/C companies is over £100.

    By the way if you buy evacuation pump and gauges you can only fill with that system after evacuation (you cannot remove the connectors once you have a vacuum because this lets air back into the system. The valves on the system are only one way, they do not let pressure out but they will not hold a vacuum.

    okay - thats useful to know....so I'll have to have all the oils/refridgerents ready to go

    if i do buy anything, i'll tell you beforehand anyway.....i'm still looking for a cheaper deal. If i can get a pump and the kit for £50 then I'll get it - followed by the freeze gas....and the oil, if i can find it

    I'm so drained on energy after today. It was boiling hot and i was trying to loosen those wishbone nuts with no joy....what a workout ey
