40,013 miles says 28.3 mpg; Trip A & B same at 25.5 mpg at 135 miles. Only filled tank once. Will keep B running.

Trim was another baffling concept, like choosing bling or cosmetics.

I told her I could wait for that brown 2015 coming in mid- January. Then she said, "well, it may not come out til March, and you need a car." And i obliged, yes mam.

Any recent vehicle with an MFI will have a setting for average and a setting for instant mpg. The fact the OP went on about 'wild' fluctuations in mileage from 99 to 5 mpg, in addition to other things stated that has already happened, and has to be told about this or that feature, or what/where she went/is wrong in her conclusions and her current predicament indicates an unwillingness to understand what has/is happening to her. I've read or seen nothing here is this thread that would indicate anything wrong with the vehicle other than the person operating it. She's unhappy and there is nothing anyone/anything can do about it. Any suggestions or advice, while nice and helpful seems to be falling on deaf ears, and I only say "seems to" because she is replying admitting some fault, but until the OP realizes this and quits trying to put blame on anything or anyone else, she won't find happiness in the ownership of the vehicle she bought.

  6. I realize that you were probably still emotionally shaken up after your accident (I've been there), and so it probably wasn't the best idea to rush into buying a similar car so soon, but it's still important to triple-check that your replacement car has everything you need and is as you expect, before you sign the paperwork. About your fuel economy, what is your tire pressure? You can improve your fuel economy a bit with higher tire pressure... just don't go nuts by putting in too much air (the tire should have a value "maximum sidewall" pressure like 44psi or 51 psi written on the tire, whatever it is, and you may want to stay below it).

Thank you, Skylis, you are spot on, didn't even think of that, affected by the accident. I learned a lot through this thread, despite exposing my self. Hope it ends here.

I agree that tire psi's is one of the many things that should be checked and maintained for optimal fuel mileage, but unless you're running on underinflated tires (2-3lbs psi+ under recommended), what you do with the vehicle after you start it and your driving style are THE most important factors in obtaining the best mpg's. Until you change those, everything else is superficial. You can run your tires according to auto maker's recommended psi's and still achieve excellent results for mileage.

Hi Jim, just wanted to thank you again for helping me with the mileage concern. I got a Craftsman digital inflator and guage today. Also got a letter from Dealer that they are having a Trade-in/Up on Saturday. Been on the Toyota site numerous times trying to make sense of models/features. (Still think the CEO of marketing should be shot, along with the drunk that totalled my car.) It looks like the LKA is only on the v model now, if I have the right case. I want what I had, what you have. I just may be out of luck. The v is too long, it makes weird noises, I don't like driving it. I'll let you know if I get lucky. See you in cyber.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Kate, you already made that mistake. If that is what your dealer or salesman is telling you they are full of crap.

You want a Five-AT. They are going to be tough to find on any given day as you may find one or two on a lot but usually the count is zero. Look around in NJ as well. Holman, Liberty, Team Toyota Princeton, Dayton, and Turnersville don't have any.

I suggest going to the websites of every dealer and ask about a FIVE-AT so you can get on their email lists. The more eyes you have looking for a car the faster you'll find something. Also price out a Five-AT on truecar.com and aaa.com (if you are a member).

You're welcome. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Yeah, the trade-in value offered is good, but they don't have what I want. I talked to Chat this AM and asked what five signified, she said '5-speed transmission'. Printed out the Prius brochure and the significant info is next-to last 20+ page brochure, in small print. While I wait for maybe the next decade for Toyoda to stop being so stingy on the options, I will at least look like I know something, digitally checking and filling my tires. :) Is there a mechanical/physics reason you get either this or that but not both in the options? Is that the kind of stuff you EEVC guys talk about?

5 speed transmission?? No such thing in any prius. They are all cvt transmissions.

And on another note, I just don't see how LKA can even work here around the Philly region. Almost all the highways either have the dotted line seperating lanes (I95, 476, 76, etc), and if not the dotted lines a lot of the highways now use the embedded reflective disks or square reflective thing where the dotted lines would have been.

There are hardly any solid lines seperating lanes around here.

Kate, besides your new prius not having LKA, is there anything else you don't like about it? Extended test drives (w/o a salesman in the car to bug you) are always a good decision when making such a big purchase.

In the City I use Septa frequently, and drive out-of-state distances down south and Saturday night jam near Maryland. I liked the shorter model. I don't like the turn ratio of the wagon. Next move is write CEO Toyoda and ask him why they only give one option, now that I have a picture window on the roof. Wish I could get rid of the title of this thread, maybe if I just stop writing. Think I'll go check my tires. :)

That is the standard for lane marking where no restrictions apply.
White dashes for lanes going the same way.
Yellow dashes for lanes going in different directions.
The solid lines indicate that you should NOT cross, either because you will run off the road, there is a no passing zone or lane changes are prohibited for another reason.

It is the same all over and the LKA handles it just fine, as long as it can "see" the makings well enough.

I know at least one case where people died because of the subtle difference between a yellow and a white line. A few years back, a 90-something former schoolteacher was traveling on the Trans-Canada highway, which alternated at the time between divided multi-lane, and single, double-lane opposing traffic. At some point she selected the left-lane, assuming it was the passing-lane, but in fact it was the lane for opposing traffic, and she was killed along with several others in a spectacular collision with oncoming traffic.

Packaging options is an art. They have to figure out what most people want and what they are willing to pay for it. Then they bundle other stuff that wouldn't move by itself. For the hatchback Toyota decided on these tiers:

    One--stripped fleet version
    Two--retail base version
Three--upgraded audio with CD changer. NAV & Solar option packages available
Four--add leather trimmed seats (later MY aren't real leather). NAV & Solar packages available
Five--add different suspension, 17" wheels, fog lights. NAV & AT packages available.

Toyota believed people would trade up to get all the features they had in their Gen2 and that the new avionics would sell the car so they bundled all that in the AT package and made it available only in the top end car so they could pull in an additional $8000-$10000 per car.

Specific features move around or disappear from year to year. For example, the backup camera was only available with one of the packages but became standard by law.

At best, Chat is ignorant. A salesman at Liberty Toyota once thought "AT" stood for "automatic transmission". Salesmen aren't paid to know about cars. Salesmen are paid to get the most possible for whatever is sitting on the lot. It is the buyer's responsibility to know what they want and to screw down the salesman and dealership as far as possible.

PA is in the Central Atlantic Region so a dealer can see what is in PA, DE, MD, WV, & VA. NJ is in the New York Region so those dealers can see what is in NJ, NY & CT. You shouldn't have to go any further than that to find your car. Cast a wide net & be patient.

At the EEVC meeting we saw a movie about Ray Carr's cross country trip in a 1912 Baker electric and talked about & saw a torque converter.

I have 20/20 vision and at night especially when it's raining a little those little few a far between little bitty lane markers are a joke, especially on I95, They are very hard to see.... You really have to pay attention.

If you want to put your life in the hands of a couple cameras to trust that you won't veer into a semi have at it.
