AGAIN, My FRIEND from Tx comes thru for me ! THANK YOU Ron. You may remember that the primary reason for getting my "Pri" was to visit my Dad in the V.A. Hospital-a round trip averaging 130 miles. The past 4+ wks we've been there everyday as i even brought along my Yamaha keyboard, stand & seat all fitting nicely w/even just ONE rear seat down. I'd play for Pop & ended up drawing a crowd of D.A.V's (Disabled AMERICAN Vets). It was fun for all & I was told by 1 of the head administrators "You're a rock star around here". Hey, as long as the PRIUS got me, my wife & our puppy back & forth w/o breaking the bank..well it was more for my father & "the Troops."
I felt the music was working wonders, until Dad caught pneumonia & was transferred back to the hospital wing & pumped w/ antibiotics. Time seemed to rush & yet stand still from then on. he seemed to get better once back in his room then just like that he took a turn...my Dad passed away 8PM Oct 3rd. We had just left his side only hours b-4. So, in order to accompany Dad on his "Finale Journey" thru the hospital-we just hopped into the Prius-put her in "Cruise-C" & even @ 65-67mph I was averaging 51+MPG. If anyone might be interested in viewing some pics I put on my face book page you're invited: Pop was a WWII Vet who survived . . .well you can read more if you r inclined. I do not ever want to go off subject. Yet, my DAD lived w/ his wounds and also helped me get my Dreamcar. So when ever I drive, I know Pop just may be there w/ me...only this time i won't hear his bitchin'--tho I miss it & him so.

Sorry to hear about your dad, he is in a better place now. I am sure the guys and gals at the VA will appreciate any time you spend with them in the future.

    Take care and God bless.

RON & Group: I ordered BOTH filters from ebay for $18.44 including free shipping !! I think it's a good deal. I will keep you all posted.

    Toyota Prius CABIN FILTER + AIR FILTER 2007 2008 2009 | eBay

That's the Ebay page to look for yourselves. I do NOT think I need the filters now, BUT, at that 2-fer price-Y wait.

Thanks for your kind words Ron. Thanks for the How-2 videos & thanks Pop fro helping me get my Prius-Dream-Machine. Oh, Gas prices here (so. Fl) are going UP>>so I decided I was ONE PiP down, after driving 149 miles.
    Chevron Reg @ 3.68 . . .Topped off @ 3.2Gal...That's 149 "pulse & Glide"miles @ only 3.2 gal. It was nice to have a wide-eyed grin again. Take care, I hoped i helped someone w/ the filters info. OCD-DJ

********I hope the PRIUS GENii group reads my update as I replaced BOTH filters TODAY in approx.15-20min because I work slow in extreme heat. BOTH FILTERS I was replacing were practically dirt free-1 bee & minor dust in the cabin filter. I am keeping both as spares, just in case...
I must stress that not since my 500cc Yamaha Special (1983 motocycle FYI) have i ever such ease & painless preventive (proactive ?)work. i read yesterday that a newbie who got his Mom's prius pd. OVER $30 for the filters--we all should be reminded to be patient and look for the best offerings.
Now I can drive the 135mi round trip to the VA Hospital in West Palm, entertain the troops and feel good about a cleaner DREAM-MACHINE & making a few guys smile. Take Care, DonJr (OCD-DJ)--Oh I have pics if anyone needs to have a peek.

I bought an Arm & Hammer air filter from Amazon and it works great, with a nice baking soda scent.

Couldn't agree more!! Excerpt from another thread (2005 Prius 180kMi Service Recommendations? | PriusChat )

I can't believe it took me this long to start working on the Prius. I think when I bought it, I was in a different state of mind, it was the first (and likely the last) new car I ever bought, and I thought it was too complicated and too new to work on. Plus, it's so convenient, and you have the warranty (where they train you to go to the dealer), etc, etc, etc.

Mind, you, I have ALWAYS worked on my own cars, just not on the Prius. So, once I saw how easy it is to do the oil change, I am kind of blown away. I mean, this is probably the easiest car (of close to a dozen) to change the oil in I have ever worked on (and it's the newest)!!

The prices at the dealer ... I just went through my records, and I am kind of feeling sick ... The number of times they have charged me $52 to replace the cabin air filter is more than I can count. We're talking $8 part and 5 minutes of EASY labor!! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! And then there is the $55 oil changes (takes 15 minutes), and then there is the $60 engine air filter (takes 5 minutes), and on and on and on. What a RIP OFF!

My recommendation to those of you who are considering working on your Prius, or having an interest in it - GO FOR IT!!! This car is amazingly easy to work on, the parts are cheap and the online support is AMAZING!

I'm using the TYC aftermarket cabin filter. I go through a lot of them (3-4 a year). Get them for about $5-$6 USD each.

It's not an engine critical part. So, a few dust particles get through. Nothing different than what gets in your car and gets blown around by opening doors and windows....

I did read an interesting piece about how using the carbon and baking soda filters in somewhat damp or humid climates was not good, because the filtering material was more likely to become saturated with moisture, thereby decreasing flow...

Anyone with a good alternative to the stock Toyota cabin air filters?

Just read this thread, including my post immediately above yours....if you want to spend more, get a NAPA Gold.

Still my contention that the Cabin Air Filter's importance is highly overrated.

I buy mine from RockAuto.com. They have the Fram for under $10, and the TYC for $3.30. I usually get the TYC and order 3 or 4 at a time to reduce the shipping per filter.

I get them from Ebay for $5.97 each, but the shipping is "free" which still works out ahead with the $8.20 shipping that Rockauto charges.

However, I did just check rockauto and through June, buy 5 TYC cabin filters and they will give you a sixth one free.
