Yeah...it's pretty crazy. So far, I'm the only other person on the planet who he trusts enough to drive his car...lucky me! The REALLY funny part is that the car is owned by a 60 something retired man from the St. Louis Symphony. If you saw him, and a parking lot full of cars, the Miata beast would be the LAST car you would imagine him climbing into. Maybe when he can't get in and out of the car anymore, he will pass it along to me...probably not... LOL

I'll cross my fingers for you. lol

You could probably fit a rear-mount turbo on that thing if you wanted to. ;) STS Turbo. I had one on my GMC Sierra for awhile. Got it to run low 12s despite weighing 5,000lbs.

Here's a Miata with an LS1 engine at Thunderhill

He;s running in NASA SU (Super Unlimited) which is cars that are modified enough that they don't fit in a regular class for modified cars.

Don't get the impression that he was a little slower than a Corvette, he was a little slower than a highly modified Corvette that was beating everyone else in SU that day.

I think I need a moist towelette. Oof! The sound that LS1 makes is sheer music. I'm wondering what was going through the Corvette driver's mind when he couldn't shake the Miata... :D

that picture was around before the release of the Gen III as what a photoshopper thought the car may look like.

Probably something like "There's that damn Dean in his Miata again". Those are the big boys in that class, odds are that Corvette was in the 550hp+ range and thoroughly track prepared or it would have been running a couple of classes lower.
