Changing the Brake Pads

We don't even know if this "fairly simple procedure" even works. It will clear the DTC. It can NOT command the solenoid valves or the boost pump

 

I suggested that he try that procedure to clear the error status , no other reason.

 

FYI for those wondering what "standard" brake pad thickness, according to the service manual:

Front: Standard- 11mm, Minimum- 1mm

Rear: Standard- 4mm, Minimum- 1mm

Mine were just checked at 60k and I have 9mm in the front and 2mm in the rear. I'm not really sure how I lost 50% in the rear compared to 20% in the front.

 

^^ 2 mm wear front and back. Does even brake use seem so surprising ?

 

Yes, about 65%-70% of braking is done by the front wheels.

 

^^ Then how about a rounding error. 1.33 mm vs 2.66 mm.

 

Well, the rears are drum shoes, aren't they, on second gen? Maybe you're going through the rear shoes because of parking brake use. And the front are near pristine because of mainly regen braking occuring.

 

I think shop wear "measurements" are also often an eyeball estimate until the lining starts getting thin.

On other disk/drum bake cars it's not unusual for the rear linings to outlast 2 or more sets of front pads, particularly if most braking is gentle.
