actually I have a great feeling that me resetting my odometers and my mpg returning to normal were nothing but a coincidence and that I just had not given it a chance to come back to "normal" yet. Scary thing is this was a manager in the service dept. in a toyota dealership that told me this would fix the problem??????

In a related mpg issue, I recently replaced my 12V aux with the Optima YT after watching my mpg steadily decrease from 50+ to 47, then to 42. There was an initial improvement back to 47, but then it decreased into the 45-46 range. After reading the OP I reset both trip odo, and sure enough after a few days my mpg is back up in the 48-52 range. Odd.

I have noticed a 48.6 to 43.5 drop in my mpg's since my servicing. The trip odometer, that I didn't know I had, had not been reset 70k plus miles and 58k plus respectfully. The dip stick is over also. I reset the trip odo's and will get the oil level down tomorrow.

How far above the top mark is it bugly? My dealer used to consistently overfill about 1/4", unfortunately it's very common. When the overfill get up around 1/2" it's starting to be a real cause for concern.

Next time use three quarts exactly and avoid any question. You can always top it off later if it makes you feel better.
