Hot damn! Mark you nailed it! Of course...it was so simple...I should have known that. Of course, you will now be branded with the title of 'antichrist' by Wildkow...I hope you can live up to that rather hefty title. ;)

A couple of things to discuss about part of your thread (all in good fun of course): ;)

Ahem...doing my best Wildkow impersonation...

No church eradicated a single disease,
WRONG! The church has done it's best to <strike>perpetuate</strike> eradicate the following mental diseases: homosexuality, homophobia, racism, sexism, classism, alcoholism, and drug abuse. HA! In your face!

no church pioneered surgical techniques,
Well...the church has done it's best to pioneer stopping legal abortion...does that count? Oh wait...the church did pioneer various torture techniques during the Spanish Inquisition--that counts too!

no church discovered a single pharmaceutical,
WRONG! They discovered that coke snorted off a young boy's nice person is fun...oh and that RU486 is bad.

no church invented a single medical device,
I'm sure some of those brands of fire during the Inquistion had to be invented by a priest or cardinal...the chastity belt was probably thought up by a religious leader.

no church even made pretense of trying to learn the secrets of human anatomy and biology.
WRONG! Show me a molesting priest that doesn't know every point of the body of a young boy or girl.

See there you go...you are wrong, wrong, WRONG!

okay so we see wildkow's obsession with evidence and supporting references and links to such in all these posts above...

and then he gives us the example...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Wildkow @ May 2 2006, 11:12 PM) </div>
then we get no references, no links, no supporting evidence, no idea of whether or not he made these numbers up.

how are the numbers for the Crusades? and how about a supporting reference for that...

oh and did he not go on a spiel about how governments of largely Christian countries do not count? oh yes. here it is...

so i guess that excludes your top number then, WWII as germany and italy are largely christian countries as well. or are they "special" governments? or are you bending your own rules? i suppose then ruling organizations such as the mongols are also excluded.

you're wrong even by your own rules

and one last thing, wildkow... in light of all your insistence on references... i'm still waiting on a citation i've asked for twice to back up your argument. http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=18668&st=40

sounds pretty hypocritical if ya ask me...

That was 10 out of 10, BellBoy!! To paraphrase the old Clark Gable joke, your Wildkow impersonation looked more like Wildkow than Wildkow!

We'll have to give it up. Wildkow wins. He said so, so it must be so. I'm going to go off now and try something that at least is possible, like tranmuting lead to gold, or making water run uphill ...

I think Wildkow is doing an experiment for a doctoral thesis with this thread.

His premise is that Christians hate sin(or what they believe to be sin and wrongful behavior), and stand up against it in the public square and state that such moral issues such as same sex marriage and abortion are wrong for society, please don't expose our Christian children to these things, etc... In this public square, a Christian is called a 'hater' for doing such things. And, apparently hatred is despised in this forum. Ya'll agree that the haters should get out.

Well, unless....

You are using it to bash the Christian mentioned in the above said scenerio. Apparently the only hate allowed on this forum and this public square is that directed at Christians, religions and faith groups.

We know the Christians get their moral compass from what they believe to be God and His Word, the Bible.

Where do ya'll get your hatred for Christians? Is it from mob mentality? Is it from any documented source? Were you raised generationally to hate Christians? Is it from within your own hearts? What exactly lets you know that you should respond hatefully to the Christian world viewpoint? Why do you hate, why not react with another emotion such as a smirk, or a giggle, or apathy, or some other outlet?

I'm curious, and I think Wildkow needs this information for his thesis.

I'll take this as a consession that you can't name an institution that has given more humantarian aid to the poor and sick than the Christian Church. Also you don't know much about the "History of Education" might want to Google that one. Remember "tis beter to remain silent and thought a fool than whip out a poorly researched post and remove all doubt." ;)

Wildkow...from my post yesterday...where are YOUR numbers??

CARE USA has contributed $514 million in FY 05 (www.care.org).

Have YOU given US any stats yet on how much the Christian Church gave in FY 05? And Christian Church is pretty broad. Which one? There are many, as you know.

Question-if you are a non-Fundamentalist Christian, why are you so upset? I've agreed with you on another thread that most Christians are good. It's the right wing, Evangelicals that are the extreme. No different than Al Queda or Hamas in my mind.

Widkow, I concede absolutely.
There is no greater group of people than Christians. They are by far the most humanitarian, kindest, sweetest, bestest, and absolutely superior people in all the world.

You mean like for one of those unaccredited Biblical "correspondence" schools?

I don't think anyone here hates Christians. What we hate is the practice of Christianity by some (or perhaps many) of those Christians. We think it is a moral issue, we don't think it is good for society, and we don't want our children exposed to it.

So then there is a question: is there a difference between fundamentalists expressing their hatred for anyone who behaves differently and then trying to oppress them in any way possible, and other people just trying get on with their own lives without interference from fundamentalists and thereby being a "hater" in the fundamentalist worldview. Yes, and the answer has to do with the concept of personal space. Essentially, most people think their personal space ends with the tip of their own nose, and to a lessor extent their families and friends and of course their home, and then perhaps in an even smaller way, their local communities and various institutions they feel affiliated with. Fundamentalists, on the other hand, think their personal space extends at full strength right into the personal lives and private bedrooms of people who want nothing to do with them.

If fundamentalists could learn to respect that they don't have the right to try and force others to behave in accordance with their religious beliefs, then there would not be a problem. After all, nobody is forcing them to have pre-marital sex, experiment with gay sex, join in with others in worship of the Goddess, or vote Democrat. Furthermore, nobody is trying to restrict their ability to get married, become teachers, adopt children, etc (although perhaps they should be). Nevertheless, fundamentalists tend to continue right along like pre-autistic children with boundary issues, completely lacking the ability to understand why nobody wants to play with them, or even that they don't.

Sorry thought I had the ref. in there
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_toll

Your rules specified organization I responded with a definition and thought it would include governments. If you don't want to include gov's then you should use a term such as institution or just say so. This is all moot anyway as how could somebody counter your argument when it’s almost impossible to quantify “Hate†or was that your intention?
Couldn’t find anything on the crusades if your curious about them why don’t you look it up? Also I doubt they would be enough as they did not have the science or technology to kill in the mass numbers needed.

Now as far as the ref/cite you want from the other topic I believe that should be coming from someone else as I can’t figure out what your talking about, could be wrong though maybe you could be more specific?

Otherwise, if what you are looking for is something about cDK I have or thought I had several posts with cites/links here is one. . . http://priuschat.com/index.php?s=&showtopi...ndpost&p=247513

Reasonable enough don’t you think? No need to sling the “H†word around.

Yup, that's right- those of us who won't roll over and allow the church to dictate our lives and determine our laws; who won't go along with persecution of gays, forcing scientists who do stem cell research to go overseas, and who don't want creationism taught as science in our public schools "hate" Christians.
I'm getting tired of all this whining that Christians are a persecuted group in the US, at a time when the president and many influential people in our government are born-again fundamentalists and the seperation of church and state has become a joke.
The original post doesn't make sense anyway- their is no single humanitarian institution called the "Christian Church." There are many individual Christian charity institutions that have indeed done good work. And there is a lot of bad that is also done in the name of Christianity.

Could you please be a little more specific in your ref/cite or Link than just the home page of your ref? I have looked a little but can't find the figure you quote. Would appreciate it as it would save me quite a lot of time.

Show my cards? Think I'm bluffing? The issue answered resondingly? Wrong, Wrong and Wrong! OK I'll do the work for you. Here is one Christian Institute, non-denominational . . .

http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/www_us...TSAReport04.pdf The bottom line figure to hit is 2.5 Billion.

This probably wasn't such a hot idea. All in all though most everyone acted in a mature manner. I just got sick and tired of all the unsubstantiated claims and disparaging remarks that many on this board used to paint all Christians. Christians are just like everyone else, that is prone to make mistakes. But this wholesale unreasonable attack gets under my skin and if it paints all believers for the actions of some then expect me to react. I'm sorry, I know how sensitive an area this is and I don't for a second believe that an amount of money given says anything about what type of person someone is but actions do speak louder than words. So until you can give me a quantifiable way to measure love, hate etc. I will use these methods to measure the sincerity of someone's conviction or beliefs. Therefore until someone can prove me wrong "SHUT UP." There now, you see? We are just like the rest of you heathens. Now excuse me while I say my prayers and ask for the forgiveness of my sins!

Dear God

Please forgive me for my sins and forgive all those heathen unbelievers on Priuschat for their blanket disparaging remarks against You and Your children and if they don’t repent, I pray that all their legs will grow together.

Amen

Wildkow...

The Salvation Army! Of course. I used to work for them up in New Jersey as a lifeguard when I was in high school. They do do good work. At the camp I worked out, they helped inner NYC young kids and for two weeks, drunks from NYC. Provided a camp for them in the woods of NJ and a place where they could hang out in nature.

Most of us here on the forum all recognize the need to respect each other and nature. Some people are motivated by God, some aren't. It really doesn't matter as long as we all live in peace and protect our planet.

(Funny line about our legs growing together! :) )

For the record, where did the "p.s. I'm done with this..." in Eye's quote come from? It's not currently in Widkow's post. Did Widkow remove it after being quoted or did Eye put it in. I said that I'm going to try and maintain a clean debate and accurate quoting is a key rule here.

And Widkow, if you did indeed type that, then no you're not. You started this thread. There's an important lesson to be learned in starting a thread, a debate, or an argument in that you might not win or even begin to convince the other person to see things your way. That fear is often the self-policing realization that keeps things clean around here. It's what keeps people from creating a whole bunch of argumentative posts. Insulting the masses, praying for the infertility, and huffing away does not bode well for your argument. Neither does the conclusion that we'll eventually know the truth in the after-life (or not). I was truly hoping for proof a little sooner.

Please, carry on.

uhh. wildkow, you're the one who went around saying that "many prominent journals like nature" were proclaiming the same thing you were saying.

i found no such reference.

provide the reference, or admit you can't back up your "facts"

I dreamed I stood upon a hill, and, lo!
The godly multitudes walked to and fro
Beneath, in Sabbath garments fitly clad,
With pious men, appropriately sad,
While all the church bells made a solemn din --
A fire-alarm to those who lived in sin.
Then saw I gazing thoughtfully below,
With tranquil face, upon that holy show
A tall, spare figure in a robe of white,
Whose eyes diffused a melancholy light.
"God keep you, stranger," I exclaimed. "You are
No doubt (your habit shows) from afar;
And yet I entertain the hope that you,
Like these good people, are a Christian too."
He raised his eyes and with a look so stern
It made me with a thousand blushes burn
Replied -- his manner with disdain was spiced:
"What! I, a Christian? No, never! I'm Christ."
