I got $100 for mine and the dealer got $50. Therefore, total CFC for my '92 Ford Bronco was $4600.

I left the receipt for my new fuel pump with the dealer, hoping it will increase the scrap value a bit. The dealer told me that they don't value the scrap, but I will receive a check for whatever they get over $50. We'll see when it comes :)

And, make sure you tell them that they have to send someone out to YOU 75-100 miles away for the car! :)

I'm sorry, I'm NOT attaching any political angle to this BUT since I assume anyone taking advantage of the cash for clunkers program is doing so because they can suddenly get significantly more money for a vehicle than it is actually worth, then it does seem kind of petty to worry about what you should or might or could get for scrap value. If scrap value was such a concern, just wait until after the program and go have your car scrapped if you think it is worth so much.

Okay so you've read the rules and your "entitled"...since your getting bonus value anyway, who cares? Personally I think if you are using the program, the dealership should get full scrap value. Seems to me, The Original Owner is trading their "clunker" in for a Bonus Value offered by the program, thus IMO the dealership should get whatever value as "scrap". I feel this even more strongly after reading Diannes post above.

Geesh, if your buying a new Prius your buying a $22000+ to $31000+ automobile. Couple that with you are getting a goverment paid bonus for trading in a clunker, which unless you are really stupid, must be worth less than the $3500 or $4500, so you are getting a bonus on that end. Now you want to complain over $50 to maybe $250 dollars, because you aren't getting scrap value?

Fine, any future incarnations of this program should include whatever bonus you get MINUS scrap value...since so many of you seem so focused on getting scrap value for a car you've kept licenced and titled and NOT SCRAPPED until the government gave you free money.

I don't want to ask what kind of work you do but if you get a bonus this holiday season please hand 3.5% of it back to your employer. After all would be pretty petty to expect a bonus at all ;)

Around here the scrap value per pound is a relatively stable number, so it's easy for the dealer to know in advance what they will get for the vehicle ($.xx/pound X vehicle weight). Unless things are different where you live the dealer should be able to calculate the scrap value quite easily and in advance of writing up the deal, provided you have the title or can tell them the weight.

Having been out of the new car market for a rather long time (driving a succession of mid-1980's Mercedes acquired when they had about 100k miles on them) it amazes me to see how often car sales staffs lie, mislead, and otherwise abuse the customer. It's as if the sole purpose of the interaction is to extract the last possible dollar out of the customer on the front end rather than build a relationship with the customer. I'm pleased to note that my dealer (Metro Toyota of Kalamazoo, MI) seems to be more focused on the long-term relationship.
