If anybody should have had rocks thrown at them, it was all of those people who abused the privilege in their bi-fuel vehicles by never actually using alt fuel and only using gasoline. I feel bad for the bi-fuel people who were actually using their alt fuel though, especially people who bought the vehicles for their businesses and only used gasoline for longer trips out of town, I wish the powers that be could let them back in the HOV lane; unfortunately for them, I don't think the FEDs were too happy with Arizona giving them HOV access; if you have a CNG filling station at your house or place of business, it's highly unlikely that you are abusing the privilege; at least the alt-fuel only vehicles are still allowed. Thankfully, we finally get our turn though!

Woohoo! I just ordered my plate tonight. I was on my way home from work yesterday evening, in Kermit (Silver Pine Mica) and I heard the great news on KTAR. I think my jaw dropped and I let out a cheer! :)

I have to be honest I don't care for the plate itself - the blue/white clouds. But oh well. I'm just being picky.

I don't understand why Arizona has been dragging its feet on the legislation thing if Federal regulations were passed in '97.

Can't wait to get my new plate. :)

Just got my new plate Thursday evening, Feb 15. I wouldn't usually post my plate number in a public forum, but it's necessary to prove my point. The plate number is in the image below. Doesn't that look like "OIL #2" or "Oil <hybrid> Nitrogen Dioxide"?

Almost too weird to be coincidence.

You know I just realized - why would the plates still have Alternative Fuel displayed??
Isn't the new state legislation state that Alt Fuel vehicles are OUT and hybrids in? perhaps I'm getting the details confused...

The MVD is calling these plates the "energy efficient" vehicle plates. They also say, "... energy efficient vehicles will be issued a special Alternative Fuel license plate affixed with a Hybrid decal ..."

I think that they are just using the old Alt-fuel plates that they have on hand. The only thing new about the plate design is the little "Hybrid" sticker in the middle. They are stamping a different letter/number series on these plates.

My plate holder covers up the words, "Alternative Fuel" very nicely. It does not cover up anything else of importance like the "Arizona" at the top. I kind of like having "Alternative Fuel" covered up. :)

I think that only the bi-fuel vehicles that switch between CNG (or propane) and unleaded are being banned. If the vehicle is a true alt-fuel vehicle, running only on an alt-fuel, and not unleaded, it will still be allowed in the HOV lanes.

    Best regards,

This is too funny. Mine came and it's very similar 01L N00... or like Oil? Nooo! They are numeric 0's though rather than Alpha O's.

Also, the Hybrid annotation on the plate is merely a decal. I hope that some Alt Fuel SUV doesn't get wise and try to steal the sticker off of my plate once they're booted from the HOV lanes :-(

Like my wife said... I couldn't have paid for this and been this lucky ;-) Just too cool.
