Car Wash and putting car in Neutral

Same here. I've used a track wash 3 times now. It takes 30 seconds to cycle through and turn off all the "gripy" sensors. Throw it in neutral and get clean. Turn them back on after the dry down. No dead batteries, no griping sensors, just a clean car.

This is just not a big deal.

 

I have two Prius’. One is a 2007 and one is a 2011. Both have had the problems of the battery dying in the car wash when having it in neutral. Now I only go to the car wash that has the drive in a park and touchless sprayer. Not as good of a wash but it was sure scary when both vehicles turned off and I had trouble getting them started again. I’d avoid these track style car wash places.

 

I don't have an issue now when I put in neutral at the car wash, I just temporarily disable the sensors function in the menu.

 

I disable PKSB and PCS and it still beeps all the way through the car wash.

What else do I have to disable to make it stop?

 

Glad this came up as I failed miserably at this today. I thought I shifted into neutral but must have done something wrong. The car moved into the car wash faster than the track wanted it to. I got the “Break!” signal and so hit the breaks and tried for neutral again. In the flurry of beeping and flashing alarms - I wasn’t sure what was moving me through the wash. I was breaking and letting my foot off the break at a fast pace that felt OK, still trying to shift to neutral, but it didn’t feel quite right. Somehow the car came through clean and without damage - but I was angry at myself for thinking I could figure it out on the fly.... again. (2020 Prime Limited)

 

You have to hold the shifter in the neutral position for a beat before it'll take.

I usually pull over before I get in line for the car wash to make sure I have time to disable PKSB and PCS ... but doing that doesn't stop the beeping, so what else do I have to do?

 

Or double-tap the shifter into N.

Let it beep. It's not a problem. A couple of years ago certain washes would activate the brakes on certain Primes. A software upgrade from the dealership fixed that. My 2017 Prime never had a problem in the wash. Hold the shifter in N for a second, let it go, let the chain pull the car through the Tunnel o' Suds. Let it beep. At the end when the green light flashes shift to D and drive out.
