The question in my mind is flush with what.

I think that this may be referring to flush with the lip at the bottom of the hatch. The folded seat may not be at the same height.

For $12 I ended up buying a 3/4-in x 4x8 sheet of the XPS (extruded polystyrene) from Lowes for hobby purpose. It seems quite inert. I had to go with Lowes brand (vs. Corning Fomular) because Home Depot does not stock a complete selection of the Formular 4x8 sheets for consumers (apparently if you're a contractor you can get it). The Lowes XPS is light blue sheets and I think you can get all the sizes 1/2-inch thru 2+. I had to chop off 1-ft because I could not fit it in my minivan.

This stuff is easy to work with and cut and make shapes...I can see using it for a few insulation projects already..

I was originally thinking of a new floor on stilts. Or somethings along those lines. It would take some building, but essentially a flat board (1/4" plywood, perhaps) supported by other pieces of wood. I use wood because it's easiest for me to work with. The best part of this is that if done cleanly, you've just created empty spaces for storing / hiding small things.

    Hey Tony,

I think i might be imagining it differently then what you have in mind, it sounds to me like you have quite an idea, i hope that if you choose to pursue it you can share more as it sounds very interesting.

    Thanks.

I need to check my photos and notes to be 100% sure, but I want to say "no. they do not."

This was a bit of a shock to me because I often buy pre-cut lumber in 8-foot lengths and they fit in my 2004 from hatch-to-dash when the front and back seats folded flat.

Gen Four Prius Four. Rear seats folded down, front right seat all the way forward and tilted back as far as it can go. Headrest removed.

When we were in Vegas, there were a small group of us Gen2 owners trying to get the front seat under the rear seat just like in the Gen2. I don't like the new configuration because of the fear of damage to the front seat. It's also not as flat as the Gen2.

Gen 3 has a similar issue but perhaps not quite as bad.

How does it look if you drop the front seatback first?

In the Gen 3 you get the best result if you bring the front and back seats down together.

Is that a separate piece of carpet over the rear seat? If so, what does it look like without it? If you pick up something spontaneously, you might not have it with you.

I raised the cargo area of the car with Styrofoam. See the photos in "Step in storage area - Solutions?"
