    More good news.
My replacement new style compressor arrived. (It has the orange pigtail mounted on a bracket.) We already know that the orange cable plug and socket are the same on both styles. I just found that the Denso part number HFC134a label is the same on both styles of compressors. The only possibility that it will not fit my 2010 Prius is if the long orange cable will not reach the relocated position of the newer style compressor (unlikely). If true, I will need to replace the long orange cable. I wonder why Toyota relocated the compressor connector.

Could've been as simple as the panel-mounted connector being discontinued by its manufacturer, or going up in price compared to the cable-mounted one.

I finished installing the 2013 compressor on my 2010 prius. It fits and it works great. No problems.
The 2013, 2014, and 2015 compressors have an orange pigtail cable on them. The 2010, 2011 and part of 2012 compressors do not.
