I must admit that I find the banter on this site quite fun to read. I think it is one of the few places that people of all persuation can come together to communicate. Not many places anymore where people mix like this. My guess is that people will keep coming whether conservative, liberal, libertarian, etc., because of the sense of community. I sense all sides dish it out some.

The Prius is one thing we have in common.

Now, back to what is important. Took delivery of our 06 Prius, Option 8 on Friday.

We traded our 02 Prius in for an 06 HiHy about three months ago and ordered the 06 Prius to replace our 01 Prius about the same time. The 01 Prius we sold in the local paper in one weekend, so we have been without a Prius for the past 2 1/2 months. Real withdrawals. The HiHy just isn't a Prius.

I must admit the 06 Prius is an elegant item. My wife and Iare quite blown away. We really liked our 01 and 02s, but this car is a major leap forward. We have been enjoying it over the weekend and have put the HiHy into hybernation until we do a road trip where we need the space.

Can't take the poll because the DNC doesn't represent my views. The are lost and leadershipless. This doesn't mean that I subscribe to the Republican POV either, they are even more lost in their power lust. I am independent, with a liberal social bent, but fiscally conservative I guess.

Pretty much sums up my position as well except that many would not classify me as liberal on all social issues. Frankly, I think the founders had the right idea when they wrote the Constitution and we have simply screwed it up with amendments over the years.

The one thing that is more than a little annoying; however, are those posters who rail against religious fundamentalists and then complain that someone doesn't "believe" in global warming. As an engineer who has worked on environmental issues for over 35-years it is really amazing how much "information" is based on political agenda rather than scientific fact. For example, Is the earth warming on average - yes. Is there a "cause" other than the natural cyclic temperature variation - no evidence exists but a lot of theories abound. If there is a cause is it the emission of greenhouse gases - probably not since the average temperatures in the US are well below their highs of the last century (1934) while the local increases driving the global average seem to be coming from the third world which would indicate that land use changes (principally deforestation) may be a cause for local temperature change.

Whether or not greenhouse gases have anything to do with global warming, it is still appropriate to purchase a Prius no matter if you are a conservative or a liberal. If you are a stereotypical conservative, greater mileage means lower cost per mile and greater financial efficiency. Likewise lowering the use of gasoline results in lowering our dependency on foreign oil making us more energy independent. If you are liberal, better gas mileage means conservation of natural resources (and a significant increase in ego emissions).
