Yes but white and green stickers issued 2016 and earlier are not qualified. So that's the problem. Even some plug-ins sold in 2017 and 2018 (lesser extent) still had older 2016 stickers (via the dealers).
Just received my red stickers last Friday April 13th. Sent for them first week of March. Attached note was included with stickers.
I suspect that the lawmakers did not understand that dealers could acquire the decals from the DMV before the new car was sold (or even delivered to the dealer), and thus basing eligibility on "date of decal".
For those of us who have purchased recently and are waiting to apply on 1/1/19 to get the extra year.... Are we safe to just fill out the form, sign it now with a 1/1 date, throw it in an envelope, and drop it in the outgoing mail on 1/1/19? I want to make sure I don't miss something, like a new form, or something else.
Bummer yes it seems like the CNCDA (California New Car Dealers Assoc) should have squawked more about the new HOV decal laws before they were adopted, or maybe they did squawk and were ignored. It is frustrating the legislators will not fix this, but I personally wrote email to Bloom's office a while back and that email was ignored.
I was considering that but I'm not sure I would want to take a chance on losing the extra year by ending up with a red sticker. It may be worth a call to the California ARB peeps.
I have a 2017 Prime, and I got the application in the mail from DMV to fill out and sent back. Why is yours not eligible?
Unfortunately a few 2017 Primes had 2016 HOV stickers pre-applied by dealers before the purchase. The 2016 HOV stickers expire on 1-Jan-2019, according to the new HOV rules.
At the time, dealers who pre-acquired decals were praised for this customer-friendly action. As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.
The dealer stupidly applied sticker for my car and got issued on December 20th something.....thus, I missed the renewal date by 1 week only....What a cluster f*. This HOV lane access is so important to my work traffic . It literally saves me an hour to two hour daily basis.
