Sure I can tell ... In the C-Max the EV light is on anytime no gas is going to the engine.

What scares me about these low mpg reports is the CMax comes equipped with the most fuel efficient tire available in North America. Should that tire be replaced with anything other than the Energy Saver A/S the FE could drop by quite a bit if the 17" version reacts the same way the 15" version does. :(

As I said, it is hardly unlikely something is wrong with the car, just enjoy it and try to get best mpg you can, and let us know.

Once again, if you have gotten Mazda 5, you would have mpg in 20's, and still in the slower car, so enjoy the vehicle you purchased!

    Husker4theSpurs,

Thanks for all the great pictures. They really help get a better idea of the car's details.

btw, is there stat that calculates total ev % time? Like in C? That would be useful.

compared to other eco tires probably not that much :). Few % is cool over million cars, but unlikely the difference will be over 1 MPG, again compared to other tires.

In my testing as well as other reports, the Energy Saver A/S is good for a 2-3mpg increase over the OE Prius tires and much more over non-LRR tires or ones that are barely LRR like the ProContact with EcoPlus. :)

There is ... Each time you power down the car it gives you a rundown of your last trip as well as including info on distance travelled in EV.

Are you driving at a constant speed during this? Is it the car or you doing this pulse and glide?

Cleanmpg.com reported that the Hyundai hybrids will do an automatic pulse and glide while cruising. Glide in EV until the charge drops, and then pulse with the ICE until the SOC tops off. Most people doing poorly with the car fuel wise may not have been letting the car just do its thing. I wonder if the C-max is the same way.

maybe compare that to amount Prius c people report in threads here? Nothing is wrong, but maybe we can see whats the difference between the HSD and Ford's system?

I am keeping it at a steady speed. It does it on it's own. My son drove it home today and got 45 mpg. This again is a little more than half freeway and several miles of 45-55 county highway. Some of the freeway drive he was doing 75 and he said it was showing low 40's.

This is a really detailed video showing the various ways to set up the C-Max display. There are all kinds of ways to view different screens and get efficiency information.

Did you drive a Prius previously?
I'm beginning to suspect that former Toyota hybrid drivers are going to have to relearn how to drive efficiently in a Ford. This is true of conventional cars. The slight differences in engine and transmission behavior might even require it between models of the same make.

This time of year is transitional, and not the best time to get a feel on a cars mpg potential. Winter blend is being rolled out, and the wide temperature fluctuations behind morning and evening screws around with the variables.

No, I had a 2006 Civic Hyrbid which is going to my son. I actually do better in it than I do in the C-MAX. I also test drove the Prius and did an indicated 53 mpg with that. Today in pretty good conditions I got 49 mpg to work, so there is hope.

Thanks! That is the first review I've seen reporting MPG number.

Just found another review with MPG:

"But after nearly 400 miles in the C-Max, our real-world mpg hovers in the mid-30s. Meanwhile, the Prius V averaged 40.1 mpg during our testing."

The Insideline review was discussed here or in one of the other threads. It involves performance testing in which the C-max generally did better. Heavy acceleration combined with its heavier weigh likely lead the C-max fuel economy suffering more than the v's in the drag race conditions.

There was also a 23F difference in temperature between the days the two cars were tested. The Prius v was in the more fuel economy friendly mid to high 60s. The C-max was in the low 90s, and surely saw more AC use.

We don't know what differences the Philly.com had between the two reviews.

Ford must have done a great job raising the highway mileage of the 2013 Fusion hybrid to 47 mpg from the 36 mpg of the 2012 Fusion hybrid.
