    CR's testing is done outside in a four season state, using whatever gas blend the local station has in its tanks.

    Even with better knowledge of their test cycle parameters, a comparison of models tested on two different days can't be made with high confidence. There are flaws to the EPA testing, but the published differences between cars is because of the cars, not because one was tested on a warmer day or had winter blend gasoline in its tank.

    How about sharing that tip with Tesla, since that's their responsibility, not the user's.

    They claim unbiased, and they don't take money from manufacturers, but they definitely seem biased against newer technologies, their reviewers don't seem to understand it.

    For fuel economy comparisons IMHO car and drivers 75 mph highway test, along with the EPA, seem the most repeatable. YMMV, but car and driver did better with the prius than CR. Valid and repeatable should be the keys. Car and Driver and Motortrend are biased toward better handling and acceleration, but understanding that bias, they seem to be much better than CR for reviewing how a car drives.

    I don't know who does best on reliability. It may be jd powers it may be CR.

    Seriously, if someone is biased against new tech, the tesla or even prius prime is not for them. If a user is not going to understand how autopilot works, they shouldn't use it or buy it. For those of us that want to see where tech is at, the tesla is at the top. I know when to trust it and when to take over. My lexus was totalled because of a car in front of the truck I was behind slammed their brakes on on the highway, and I could not react fast enough for the brakes that seemed to take longer to stop. Hopefully both tesla's and toyota's systems will be able to do this trick better. That is when I switched to a prius. I am much happier with my tesla.

    I do agree that the Consumer Reports city numbers, not just for Prius HV/PHEV but for all cars except for BEVs, are unreasonable. They seem to be incorporating too much cold-engine driving and/or very hard acceleration/braking. They got 130 overall/136 city/123 highway mpge for 2022 Tesla Model 3, which align closely with the EPA values of 132 overall/138 city/126 highway mpge.

    They also seem to have made errors in their PHEV mpg testing, reporting 69 overall/56 city/81 highway mpg for Prius Prime, which is a value only hypermilers would obtain, probably because they didn't start with the same battery SOC as they ended with. So, their methodology seems to lack some scientific rigor.

    It sounds like the CR city test cycle replicates what a driver might get on a cold day renting an unfamiliar car in a crowded city they were unfamiliar with. It doesn't take into account how a MPG/MPGe motivated driver might drive the same car on the same route.
