Wasn't there a post here once about someone who tried swapping it out on the spot and later found out they missed something? Anyway, I second your advice!!

Oh, for sure. I'd borrow a pickup truck, go pick it up and bring it home.

Don't need a pickup. It fits in the Prius... Obviously...

I have been paying $1560 for my Gen 2 batteries from a dealer here in the East Bay thru my commercial account.

But as the other have mentioned, do the swap at home. If you are missing any parts, you may not receive your core credit back. Also, if you show up with a Dorman/Cardone/BYB rebuilt battery, you may not be eligible for the core credit either.

ehhh core credit is a tricky I think ericbecky and 2k1Toaster have some experience with that issue.
I would really like some exact details on that matter.

Do you have an unmolested OEM Toyota battery? If so, you should be fine. Just follow the instructions included with the new battery.

PS: to the original post-er thousand oaks toyota sells it for $1640.58 plus tax core etc. a little cheaper than what you mentioned the core charge is the same, btw in california you dun get the sales tax refunded on the core charge the state rips you off. here's the link

do not know. As long as you do not show up with a Dorman or Cardone battery as a core you have a decent chance of getting your core charge returned. But I have heard stories of dealers checking to make sure that all modules are matching, but I kinda doubt it.

I have heard those stories also, but never first hand. I think people here have returned dorman batteries for credit.

True. But it is a risk that you must be willing to take. If you move forward, you run the risk of being stuck with the $1350 core charge.

I just rebuilt my battery again for the first time I got a 5.5 capacity measurement with the hybrid assistant app in the test. I have 7 modules that test between 6Ah and 5.694 Ah I might need 7 more modules to get the whole thing over 6Ah I will see how this shakes it self out over time and decide. but as of right now the battery should be good for a while.
:), so I won't have to cross this bridge for at least a year I guess, 8 more modules should put me firmly in 6Ah capacity territory I have a good source now :) so replacing the whole thing can wait till I have everything else fixed.

I've seen some other postings about dealers refusing a core because the module serial numbers don't match. I just replaced all the modules in a single owner 2004, and I can tell you that the dates matched, but the serial numbers had several breaks. Kind of like when you get money from an ATM and some of the serial numbers are sequential, but not all of them.

Who is going to pay $3165 plus installation on a Prius that sells for $2,000 to $4,000 depending on mileage and condition?

Or a more important question: Why no company makes brand NEW aftermarket HV complete plug and play batteries for the Prius?
note: I am aware of the new cylindrical modules that one can buy to build a battery. I am talking about a complete battery assembly identical to OEM Toyota. As far as the ones rebuild with “new cells” do no qualify as a new part.

Even Toyota doesn't make one of those. You still have to open it up and put in your old ECU and some other bits and pieces.

Raises hand, that's what we do.

The Toyota pack still requires DIY work. It is NOT a drop in replacement. Ours is generally considered less work and even easier. And just like a new Toyota battery you keep all your old ECUs and electronics. You don't get junkyard scrap like you would with every other rebuilt battery.

Right. Toyota does not give you a complete plug and play battery box. You still have to transfer stuff from your old battery case to the new one.

As he said above, @2k1Toaster sells the same thing except instead of swapping the ECU and some other parts, you swap the battery modules. There is no such thing as a new fully ready to go battery assembly. I did buy one that was two years old several years ago for my wife's 2007 Prius. That was about as easy as it gets.
