HUD + Rear Cross Traffic Alert + Blind Spot Monitor are sufficient for me to buy the Advanced over the Premium.
Yes I do but I am not sure if I would be able to take advantage of all of it this year. The HUD was awesome when I test drive it at the OC auto show. As for the other features I am not too sure about them. Anyone with a premium care to chime in?
$37k? Should be less than $34k. At least 10 threads here with posts from new owners in Ca who paid the legit MSRP or less. Shop around, it's worth your time.
The credit doesn't carry over unless used for business purposes. I'd love to be wrong though. I believe he's including the almost 10% sales tax+documentation we have in California
$4,000 adds: Head-up Display Blind Spot Monitoring System Rear Cross Traffic Alert Simple-Intelligent Parking Assist Intelligent Clearance Sonar Safety Connect Telematics Service Entune Prime-Specific Apps (incl. smartphone-enabled remote climate) Heated Steering Wheel LED Foglights LED Accent Lights Rain-Sensing Wipers Auto-Dimming Mirror w/ Homelink JBL GreenEdge Audio System w/ 10-Speakers Roller-Type Tonneau Cover (replaces foldable lightweight fabric tonneau cover) IMO, the Premium is the sweet spot. A good balance of price and feature content. It's techy enough to feel like you bought a futuristic car (basically what a Prius is, aside from mpg and low emissions). The question you have to ask yourself is how many of those features listed above will you enjoy on your daily drive? The two systems combined should reduce the interior temperature by up to 40°C. But if the interior is 80°C, then 40°C still feels hot to you but it's cooler than if you were to leave SPVS off. Yes it works well at 25°C
Daniel is correct. I was looking at it from a OTD price. Thanks for the breakdown. Honestly I am torn. HUD, Heated Steering Wheel, JBL GreenEdge Audio System w/ 10-Speakers are the features that appeal to me. There is definitely a bit of FOMO (fear of missing out) involved too.
Np. The HUD is a nice feature and it's in colour now (previous generation was monotone). It includes navigation instructions if you're under route guidance. Depending on which part of Cali you're in, BSM and RCTA could prove handy too. However, you also have to keep in mind that BSM/RCTA adds two radars to the rear side (just behind the rear wheel) and ICS/S-IPA add 12 sonar sensors around the car. This requires that they be free of damage. e.g. my car has been swiped by a hit & run on the driver's side rear bumper twice. My bumper is a bit crooked so if I use the Pre-Support function on my IPA, the car will be a bit crooked when parked.
I have never seen a HUD; it sounds like something I would enjoy a lot. Not for $4,000 though since the rest holds little appeal for me. If I thought the extra sensors added to driving safety I would reconsider.
The HUD has been nice. Having the nav directions is good too, because you have to move your head significantly to the right and down to see the main display. I spend a lot of time in the car (251K+ miles in my Gen2) and a reason I opted for the Advanced model is the sound system, which is very nice.
My car received its first "ow-ey". Got hit by a small rock on the top of the hood, right side. I got the Toyota Tire, Wheel, Cosmetic Coverage that covers dings (as long as they don't require paint), so we'll see how that works. BTW, this was recommended since the car does not have a spare tire. Also, should you use the provided can of sealant on a flat, if the tire was repairable, it no longer is. The original tire warranty is only for one year, the additional coverage is for 5. Another good reason to get the new car with those Michelins.
Is there any difference between the HV-Mode of the Prime compared to the regular hatchback ? The 2016 hatchback can switch off the ice up to about 70 mph . Can the Prime turn off the ice above that speed when in HV-Mode ?
Yes but that's in pure EV-Mode but I am talking about the HV's EV-Mode once main battery is depleted.
Fortunately, another PCer was kind enough to take photos for those of us who want to see how the HUD looks like on a Gen 4. It's in post #6 and #8. 2016 Heads up Display | PriusChat
I am pretty sure civicdriver is referring to the pulse-and-glide technique of turning off the ICE by letting go of the accelerator and then very gently pushing it back in enough so that the car coasts without engaging the generator and slowing it down. If that is the case the car could potentially glide a long ways with only minimal battery usage, particularly on down gradients.
Yes that's exactly what I meant ! 2016 Prius Hatchback can do that up to about 70 mph and I was wondering if the Prime can even do better than that in HV-Mode once battery is depleted. Tot get back to the new HVAC-System of the Prime,a owner of the new Ioniq Electric said that the Ioniq gets cosy warm after just 2/3 of a mile from a cold start at -2 C° ! That's the kind of performance I would expect of the new Prime's gas injected heat pump !
I tried it at 65 and it didn't have a problem. I would guess the limit is either 84mph or higher. The trouble is, how do you tell if the engine is rotating or not? It's so smooth and quiet, I couldn't tell for sure.
