On my 2017 Prius, the DRCC seems to be overly sensitive to brake lights, braking harder than is needs to if it just sees brake lights, sometimes in the next lane!

Sounds like anecdotal evidence. I hadn't heard of any visual aspect to DRCC. In fact, the "R" stands for radar.

With DRCC on, it'll stop on its own but it won't restart without hitting resume.

"When the vehicle ahead of you stops, your vehicle will also stop (vehicle is stopped by system control). After the vehicle ahead starts off, pushing the cruise control lever up or depressing the accelerator pedal will resume follow-up cruising." - OM Page 395

According to toyota's site it uses both a radar and a camera.

Nice info! Thanks for the link.

It only refers to the camera for acceleration though.

True. But I would bet its used for deceleration as well. It would need to know if what the radar sees is in front or to the side. Not sure what kind of radar it uses but I'm thinking it's a point source which would need camera input to know enough data for which lane is occupied.

The description of -actual- operation sounds just like the way the GIII DRCC works. The radar can get reflections from the next lane, though it's rare. While it may seem overly conservative, that is "a good thing" (tm) when on the road. ;)

Does the new gas injected heat pump deliver instant heat ?

Heater works without the engine as long as the battery has sufficient charge. It works almost as fast as a regular heater. Been parked outside in these mid 30 degree mornings no problem. Heated seats are also a plus

What does that mean? My conventional cars can take 3-10 minutes to start producing heat while my 2004 does it in 30 seconds because of the thermos. I would expect a heat pump to start producing heat within 20-30 seconds.

My 07 took at least 4 to 5 minutes to produce any real heat from a cold start and i live in Cali. The Prime produces a good amount a heat within the same amount of time but without the engine kicking on. It prioritizes battery consumption in most situations. The point is it doesnt need the engine to produce heat unlike the regular hatchbacks. I love it.

The only way my 04 takes that long is if it hasn't been run in several days. I get heat from the vents before the Ev-dominated warm up period ends, and that's in Colorado.

    So would I !
10 min of pre-heat will not do the job if it takes 4-5 min to get the heat pump producing warm air !
    A bit disappointing.
I was expecting better performance than that .

    Merged. Use multi quote

    That's interesting!
    I didn't know that .
I wounder why they took it away in gen 3. .
Sounds great to get warm air within 30 seconds .
We didn't get that for gen. 2 in Germany.

40 degrees isn't even heater weather. That's light jacket weather. It's commonly in the teens when I leave for work.

I was out riding my bicycle in that weather this morning. Felt fine except for my hands that turned into painful popsicles.

I want either warmer handlebars or better gloves.
