The first three of ANY new car is going to be enthusiasts.
It is not surprising the first three Bolts went to EV enthusiasts.
I am pretty sure the first three Prime went to plug-in enthusiasts as well.
I also feel safe in betting the first three Leafs went to EV enthusiasts, and I'll follow that up that the first three Leaf 2 buyers will also be current EV owners.

It would be more surprising if they weren't.

Just because 100% of the first three buyers are fuel efficiency enthusiasts doesn't mean it will be that way for the next thousand, or hundred thousand, or million.

I stopped by the local Toyota dealer and he said the Prime would be available in January. ...

The coastal inventory has increased quite nicely up to ~ 500 unsold cars within the first two weeks of December. My fingers are crossed that cars will spill over into fly-over country before the rebate ends.

That won't be happening for a year at the earliest, and more likely two or three.

z thinks you're talking about the bolt. because of the thread title. he didn't notice the derailment the o/p did to his own thread in post #42.

The number one reason why I did not get the Volt this year. I trust Toyota way more than Chevrolet. I had Chevy vehicle before is a mess when it come to the Service Dept..I bad experience with them.

Bisco nailed it, sorry I missed that.
I am still not clear what rebates you are talking about though?

In regards to the federal rebate, it will likely be years before Toyota reaches their 200k limit as well. Unless they seriously ramp up, and even then, it should be at least a year.

Until gas prices really climb, I think the Prius and Prime will have some type of discount from Toyota.

i guess i was surprised that prime came with 500 right off the boat and a thousand a short time later, when a lot of people can't even get one, and there are rumors of a mfg delay.

if I might take a guess at Toyota's delivery rationale, there are two considerations. CAFE & CARB. Primarily sell as many as you can (more population = more credit value to offset the land barges)

good point. can probably afford to take a loss on them, and sell more heavy metal for uge profits.

That argument holds until the sales thresholds are met. Since Toyota has been selling AT_PZEV credits excess it is not correct in the case of the Prius, and the secondary market price for the credit is not high enough to explain the rebate.

ZEV credits may be a different story since a fraction of them cannot be substituted by AT_PZEV.

ifaik, there ARE no more credits for any of the different PVEV types ... are there? But their higher mpg's do serve as a valuable CAFE offset.

    Get ready for a headache:
    https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/zevprog/zevtutorial/zev_tutorial_webcast.pdf

AT_PZEV are not given partial ZEV credit from MY 2018; I am not sure about 2017.
In any case, it could only make sense regarding ZEV to subsidize Prime sales in the states that count towards the CARB ZEV requirements but the $1000 rebate is national.

Regarding CAFE: the fine is cheap; there is no benefit to going below the threshold; and there is no trading scheme available.
