I would have posted yesterday, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't this work that was giving me all the trouble. :)

Kudos. My soldering skills isn't great. The only thing I did is modify Playstation 1 during the old day. I see you got a helping hand.

Looks like I'm going to be doing a lot less standing around and running my mouth at the next mod party.

I recommend the 1206 Surface Mount LEDs for the AC module on/off indicators which are always at full brightness. The 3528 LEDs are pretty intense at night.

There are seven of them. The little ones in this image:
    upload_2016-3-16_13-18-19.png

I suggest getting a dozen, just because.

Well, I decided to dive into figuring out how to change the green backlight LED in the Start Button.

Prying the outer cover off just requires some acrobatics with a couple of jeweler's screwdrivers.

    20160319_194706-annotated.jpg

The trick to getting the circuit board out is that you need to de-solder the ANT1 and ANT2 connections.

    20160319_194728.jpg

There are two LEDs in here. The smaller one is for the backlight. The larger one is the multicolor LED that does green/orange status indication. I'm going to leave the status indicator alone.

I fudged some longer leads in there so that I could use an Oznium 1206 surface mount for the backlight.

I wanted to get a quick bench-test before closing it back up. I found this diagram on a Subaru WRX forum. The pinouts are apparently the same.

Backlight on the G's button is green. I'll be swapping that out next time I have things apart.

    8x 1206

    Seat Heat Switches

    (5x for backlight, 2x for on/off indicators)

    Toyota Head Units
    upload_2016-5-16_22-55-29.png
This type of head unit requires 58x 0805 type LEDs.
(2x for each button, 2x for each border, 4x for each knob)

    upload_2016-5-29_17-57-26.png
This type of head unit requires 20x 0805 type LEDs.
(2x for each button, 2x for each knob & slot marker)

Don't get exactly the right number. Get 10% extra because these tiny LEDs are easily damaged or lost during the installation process.

    PLCC-4 vs. PLCC-2

    upload_2016-4-10_20-39-31.png

Most of the Toyota LEDs are four lead common cathode, where the cathodes are indicated on the circuit boards with "K" and the anodes "A". My latest conversion with @Gaspeed was the first I tried with Oznium PLCC-4 LEDs.

It came to light during this conversion that the Oznium PLCC-4s are not exactly like the Toyota 4-lead LEDs.

    upload_2016-4-10_21-3-57.png

    So, that leaves three options:
    A) use 1206 LEDs and ignore the second pair of pads
    B) use PLCC-2 LEDs and etch out the K pad nearest the A pad
    C) use PLCC-4 LEDs and rotate them 45 degrees so that you're only soldering in a cathode and the diagonally opposite anode.

I've found that option A is the cleanest solution.

I sent an email to Oznium about the issue I just posted about above. I suspect they're going to reply with something like "That's weird."
Whatever the case, can do the job just fine with PLCC-4s or PLCC-2s.

The shopping list above does not account for head-units and the window switches on the doors. I'm about to add a note to the shopping list for head-units.

I got the official reply from Oznium.
"It's possible to produce a custom pin layout but it only really makes sense if you can order at least 5000 pcs. Price for 5000 pcs will be around $760."
