Good work on the video. That's just what our 12 inches looked like with the 56 mph wind gusts. Yuk. We're on track to get the same thing again Tuesday night. They're saying 8 - 12 inches state wide.
OK, these pics aren't impressive by any measure but for someone from normally sunny and warm south Texas they are quite rare. We were in the 80's the week before the Blizzard of 2011made it this far south to freeze my poor sandy beach metallic (oh the irony) 2010 III:
Thanks. That's got to be quite an event for you in Oklahoma. We're missing this one, it's going south of Chicago. We did get a couple inches of fluffy snow on Sunday, but it was no big deal. Except there's no place to put it.
I imagine you don't have ice-scrapers then. I know some people have used credit cards in an emergency, until you snap one of those. Just don't pour hot water on the windshield to melt the ice, whatever you do.
This will be our third large event one in 1.5 years so the majority of people are figuring our when to just stay home until the plows hit the snow routes. I actually enjoy driving in snow when the "other" idiots aren't out.
Round 2 is here. Locally, we lucked out with 6 inches and it's still coming down. Enid has 12 inches and Woodward has 16 inches so far. I'm going to toss a FedEx label outside and ship this stuff East. Here's a pic I think you'll enjoy.
Tulsa's at about 6" right now. It's supposed to end around lunchtime. A report on Tulsa's snow made the headline on Drudge "Blizzard: Heartland".
My Gen II Pri do fine in snow...the Gen III...not so good. It has the stock Yokohama tires, which are flat out DANGEROUS with any kind of snow on the ground...plowed or not. If there is something it can lose traction on, regardless of how minimal, these tires are sure to lose traction. Literally lost control twice on the way in to work this morning - and ordered new tires that I'm putting on this weekend.
You guys have really been hammered this year. I feel for you. Right now it looks like pie plates coming down. It's 11° at 9:50am. I've never seen flakes this big at these cold temps. I have the stock Avid's which are about 1 year old with 18,000 miles on them. I've not had any out of the ordinary traction issues with them at all. New tires will make a big difference for you. Good luck with this weather.
Congratulations? Have a cookie. I guess I missed your post on NASIOC? What's your point anyway? I "made it around just fine" in my Subaru too, didn't even have to stop for gas. Zhe Wiz
It looks like this junk is over for now at least for us. Yesterday morning we set an all time statewide low temperature record. The actual temp was a negative -31° F (-35 C) in Nowata near Tulsa. That's the lowest recorded temp we've ever had since records were kept. It was -5° here in OKC, but that was yesterday. We're in the 40°'s today and up to 75° by next week. Welcome to the land of extremes.
