with "dark" tint you get less sun in the car, but there's RADIANT HEAT to make up for it. I prefer the V-Cool metallic type of tint, which is a lot clearer, but a no-no (I think) for cell phone and GPS reception.

personally, I cover my silver car at work with a very light tan colored evolution 4 car cover or park in the shade (trees? what trees? this is Houston after all! )

I've never had windows tinted, but I am considering having it done to my Prius. From your numbers, am I correct in assuming that, the lower the %, the darker the tinting?
Also, are your rear passenger windows dark enough that you can't see in from the outside?

You are correct in assuming that the lower the %, the darker the tint. The rear passenger windows are dark enough that during the day, one would have to have their face pressed up against the window to see in unless the interior lights are on. The front windows are easier to see into, even from a few feet away, and to keep it legal in CA they can't be more than (or less than?) 30% tint or so I was told.

The tint shop had an even darker tint, it was either 5 or 10%, they called it a limo tint. But I felt that was a tad too dark for my tastes. I even felt 20% might be too dark until I had them show me a car that had 20% tinted windows and I viewed it from the outside and inside and ended up really liking the level of darkness.

I agree that black is a great color and it looks really good but only when it is clean. I have had black cars in the past and loved them as long as they were parked in my garage but I want to drive this car so I got a Barcelona Red and could not be happier. It is such an awesome looking car. I have had a couple of people ask me what kind of car it that and have been more than happy to explain. I have only had it a week but it was love at first sight. Actually the white one I test drove was love at first sight but I wanted red so I waited about 10 days to get it. Lucky me!!

Thanks! And can I ask (if I'm not being too nosy)- how much does it cost to get all the windows tinted?
I'm not thinking so much about solar heat reduction (although that's a consideration, but not as much of a problem where I live), but privacy for passengers in the back, or making it less obvious if I have guitars or stuff in the back.

I've had my 2006 black beauty just a week. See Rancid13 - did the same, looks just like the picture.

Tinting done yesterday, 20% back window and rear passenger windows, 35% driver and "shot gun, $ 200. Looks great on black. Adds privacy and seems cooler (temperature wise).

Next up, fat tires, rims, a wing, get it "lowered" and blue flame decals for the front.....

It was about $200 for mine, but make sure you shop around. I had quotes from $450 down to the $200 I paid.

Did anyone else have an issue with their tinter NOT being able to tint the little bitty window beside the side rearview mirrors? I mean, it's not noticeable, but my dude didn't have a squeegee small enough to fit in there...

And, fyi, I mine is 35%. In VA, front windows are legal only at 50%, rear at 35%. My guy did 'em both at 35%, though. Shhh...don't tell.

Here's a cool link to percentages per state...it pisses me off that SUVs and vans can have darker legal tint in the back than cars. Oh well. <_<

25 miles North of Traverse City, at the tip of Leelanau County (Michigan's little finger). No snow left - we had some very warm weather, and now a bunch of rain, so all the snow is gone. The latest I have ever seen snow on the ground up here was June 16th. It was in the woods on a North facing slope, but it was snow.

Tinted windows and gunmetal rims only add flavor.

What wheels/tires do you have? And have they effected your MPG?

Those are 17" Axis Katana's if I remember. 225 width, and the ride height it exactly the same as the old tires since the Bridgestone's have a tiny sidewall. The car's a little more jarring on bumps, but it handles better and I've lost about 4 mpg. But then I race around (and do mostly freeway driving) so if I let the electrical engine work a little longer I'm sure it would be a little better.

The Reds must hang out together. There was a post that said someone was passed in the Bay area by a fleet of 3 Reds. Friday my friend called to report having the same thing happen in LA.

Maybe there is a "Wild Bunch" sub-group in the "Wild & Crazy Guys" we don't know about.

It was $170 for mine, and that includes a lifetime warranty against peeling, cracking, warping, etc. If any of those things should happen, the detail shop's tinter has a mobile system and he'll come to me at my convenience to fix any problems at no charge. :) They did a great job, didn't have to take apart the door panels either (as I've heard some people mention about their tint jobs). Even when the windows are all the way up, you can't see any line where the tint ends, they got way down in there.

No issues at all here, with regards to tinting the little triangular windows. I had only had the car a little over a week at the time I took it in to get tinted, and when the guy mentioned tinting those little windows as well, I'd forgotten completely about them! He said something about 'all 9 windows will be tinted' and it shocked me at first, before I came to the realization that there are 4 tiny windows on that car. :)

For anyone local (LA/OC) who's looking to have their windows tinted, here's where I had mine done:

What do you guys/gals think of the Magnetic Gray? Got mine 11 days ago, ordered it withput ever seeing the color and was extremely happy when it arrived. Great compromise between silver/black with lots of metallic in the paint which helps with hiding the dust/dirt.

I have some posted under Features/Photo Gallery/Members Gallery on page 4 with the title Goofa1. Being new to this forum, I'm not quite sure how to insert a pic in my reply.

Gray's good, I wouldn't have passed on the car if it had been that color. Silver looks clean even when it's not. But I'm really happy with white so I'm not complaining.

It's pretty! I had considered holding out for the Magnetic Gray, but ended up not wanting to wait an few more months in addition to the 5.5 months I waited for the Black. While MG's a very nice color, I'm also glad I went ahead and got Black. It's sexy!!
